I took a step towards her; she took a step back. She swayed a little, stumbling in her one shoe. I grabbed her bag from her hands and opened it. I pulled out an empty pillbottle.

“Go and get D-J,” I said to Summer. At first she stood still and looked atme.

“Now!”

I watched her rush off. Honey fell against my car, she slid to the ground and I knelt besideher.

“You love her and you couldn’t love me. I only ever wanted you to love me,” she whispered. Her words wereslurred.

“Talk to me, Honey,” I said, fishing around in my pocket for my phone. I dialled911.

When D-J arrived at my side, I handed him the bottle. “Fuck!” hesaid.

“What is it?” Summerasked.

“Some serious shit. Did you call911?”

“I did, what do I do?” Iasked.

“Fuck knows, keep her talking?” hereplied.

Summer knelt down besideher.

“Honey, can you hear me? Give Dex a call,” she said to D-J.

Honey opened her eyes slightly and looked at Summer. “I love him,” shesaid.

“I know you do. When did you take thosepills?”

Honey didn’t answer; she slid a little further down the car. As she did, her short skirt rose. We all saw her blood stainedthighs.

“Daddy’s back,” shesaid.

Those were her final words before she stopped breathing. I watched in stunned silence as Summer pulled her legs until she was lying flat. I watched in horror as she pummelled on her chest and vomit mixed with foam spewed from Honey’s mouth. It all seemed in slow motion. The blue and red flashing lights lit up the car park, people were running and talking, and I didn’t hear a word of it. All I heard was, ‘Daddy’sback.’

Coldness swept over me, I’d taken a step back—only seeing a blur in front ofme.

‘Daddy’s back, Jackson. Are you ready? Are you ready to show me what a man you arenow?’

‘Cut, Jackson, show me how brave you are. Let me see you bleed like your motherdid.’

‘Did you know she bled all over the floor when they pulled you fromher?’

‘You did that to her, you made her bleed,Jackson.’

“Jack?”

“Dude, can you hearme?”

‘Daddy’s back, Jackson. That’s another one you’vekilled.’

‘Daddy’s back, daddy’s back, daddy’s back, daddy’sback.’

“Daddy’s back!” I screamed out, bashing the side of my head with the heel of myhand.

I wasn’t aware of who was around me, I felt hands on my arms, I heard words. I smelled her. Was that my mother? Could I smell mymum?

“Mum?” Isaid.
