It wasdark when I woke; the muslin drapes blew gently as a breeze wafted through the room. I was alone and my stomach knotted in panic. I rolled to the edge of the bed and stood. I quickly walked to the doors and out onto the balcony. I stopped outside Summer’s bedroom; the door was open and the bed empty. I carried on walking. My heart rate started to increase as I searched each room withoutsuccess.

“Summer,” I called out. Silenceresponded.

I ran from room to room and then back outside. I sprinted down the steps onto the beach and scanned first one way, then the other. It was too dark to see far and I prayed she hadn’t decided on a walk. I pulled my mobile from my jeans and dialled, I could hear her ringtone back in thehouse.

“Where the fuck are you?” I said, as I made my way back to thekitchen.

It was as I slammed my mobile down on the countertop that the front door opened. I looked up the stairs. Summer walked through carrying a paper bag in herarms.

“Where have you been? I got worried,” I said, as I met her at the bottom of thestairs.

“I went for food,Jack.”

“You left your phonehere.”

“So I did. I’ve been gone twenty minutes, that’s all. We needed to eat and you have nothingin.”

“How did you get to theshops?”

“I took your car. Took me ages to remember to stay on the wrong side of the road, but thankfully I didn’t meet anyone head on,” she said with achuckle.

“You won’t be insured, please don’t do thatagain.”

She placed the bag on the countertop and reachedin.

“And please don’t do this again,” she said, as she waved her passport in front ofme.

“I…”

“I don’t need toknow.”

I watched as she returned the passport to her handbag and zipped itclosed.

“Do I need to hidethis?”

I shook myhead.

“I’ve got two weeks of holiday left, Jack, but if I need to leave, I will,” sheadded.

She unpacked the groceries as I took a stool at the breakfast bar. “Need any help?” Iasked.

“No, I only got a few things, enough for now. I’m hungry, go and fire up the barbecue.” She handed me a plate of meat togrill.

She joined me on the deck with burger buns, salad, plates, and cutlery. When the meat was grilled, we sat and ate. I watched as she took a bite from her burger and then licked her fingers clean of the juice that had dribbled. My cock hardened, and I shifted to get comfortable on the metalchair.

“Do you want a beer?” she asked as she wiped her mouth with anapkin.

“No, too early. I’ll have waterinstead.”

“Tooearly?”

“Too soon after that injection, it will make me sick. Which I guess is the point of it,really.”

“What did Dex giveyou?”

“I have no idea but whatever it is, it works. Whether it’s booze or drugs, we wake without too many after-effects.”
