Mackenzie neededto meet with Christopher and Alex. Vivienne’s new will had been prepared and Mackenzie had news regarding the bank account. He wanted me to stay with Gabriella and Vivienne. He was as on edge that morning as he had been the previous day. By now, he’d said, both Daniel and Addison would know their shares wereworthless.

“The shit’s hit the fan, baby,” he said, using my words as we drove to Vivienne’s house. I don’t think I’d ever seen his smile sobroad.

“You know something, don’t you?” Ienquired.

He raised his eyebrows at me. “I know lots of things, Lauren. I know how much you love me to fuck your cunt from behind. I know how you squirted and it surprised you. Iknow…”

“Whoa!” I shouted. “Those are words for last night, not driving down the street with the windows open and peoplearound.”

“No one can hear a word I’m saying, but I know all those things.” He smirked atme.

“Yes, so you know allthosethings, but what’s making you smile so muchnow?”

“Maybe I’m thinking of your hot pussy,Lauren.”

“Can you get off my pussy and sex for a moment? Stop being sochildish.”

“Only if I have to. Yes, I know something, and you’ll know when it’s all done,” he saidcryptically.

Mackenzie exchanged me for Alex when we arrived at Vivienne’s. I was ushered inside and the front door was closed and locked behind me. There seemed to be more staff than I remembered from a few days ago, but then I had been out on a horse ride for most of the day, so I might not havenoticed.

“How are you, Mrs…Vivienne?” I said, remembering she had insisted on the use of her firstname.

“I think I’m still in shock, Lauren. There is a large part of me that is not surprised, and the rest so verydisappointed.”

I followed her through to the kitchen. There was a chef busy in the kitchen and Gabriella was sitting at the table on her mobile. She waved and half stood as I approached. I kissed her cheek as she spoke to hercaller.

“Do we know anymore?” Vivienne asked, offering to pour me acoffee.

I accepted the cup. “Mackenzie knows something but he’s nottelling.”

“I feel so sick with the anticipation. Do you think they know yet?” sheasked.

I nodded. “I believe they may. Is that why the additional staff?” I cringed at the word, staff.

“Alex and Mackenzie are a little worried Daniel may do something stupid. He isn’t prone to rationalthinking.”

Gabriella laid her mobile on thetable.

“Anything, darling?” Vivienneasked.

“News has hit the company lost the government contract and shares plummeted on the stock market from two dollars to thirty cents as shareholders offloaded. Mackenzie hasn’t offloaded his and his broker is buying up all stock as it becomesavailable.”

“Why?”

Gabriella raised her eyebrow and pursed her lips. She smiled, mysteriously. “Well, I wonder what will happen when it’s discovered there is a rather large American airline manufacturer interested in placing an order for a sizeable fleet of commercial airlines with that company. It may have lost the government contract, but in four days, a miracle recovery will occur. The company doesn’tjustmake navigationsystems.”

“And those shares will skyrocket. And Mackenzie will own the majority of them,” Ifinished.

Vivienne clapped her hands. “We did raise him well, didn’t we?” she said, and then laughed. “Get me some of those shares, darling,” sheadded.

“Isn’t that illegal?” Iasked.

“No, absolutely not. Mackenzie is just one shareholder. He has the right to buy those shares if he wants to. We genuinely lost that contract because it’s deemed there is a conflict of interest. Mackenzie advises the Secretary of State for Business on foreign businesses in the UK. It’s an unpaid advisory role, but to then hold the majority shares of a business with a government contract could be damaging. Now, if you also meant Momma buying shares on mynews, then…probably, but I think we’re too far down the road to criminality to care now, don’t youagree?”

I laughed at the thought, but then wondered if we actuallywere.
