“There is something on my mind, but I’d rather process it first, if you don’tmind?”
“Of course, I don’t. I just want you to know I might be able tohelp.”
He smiled but didn’t answer. Instead, we walked back to the bedroom. He stripped off the T-shirt and jeans he’d worn after his shower and climbed under theduvet.
“Naked, please? I want to feel you, skin on skin,” he whispered as I was about to join him. I stripped and slid under the duvet besidehim.
Mackenzie wrapped his arm around me and I curled into his side. I placed one hand on his chest, feeling his heart beat steadily and hooked one leg overhis.
“Are you really okay?” I askedquietly.
“I am now.” He didn’t speak anymore, and I listened as his breathing deepened when he fell asleep. It took me a while to drop off; I wasn’t convinced by hisanswer.
