Luke: Hey, Dani.

About an hour later, it’s followed up with another text.

Luke: Let me know when you’re free. Looking forward to seeing you later.

Shit! This last text was from forty minutes ago. Not wanting to let him think I’m too preoccupied, I quickly reply.

Me:Sorry. Got caught in the zone last night. Pulled an all-nighter. Just getting up now. What do you have in mind?

Luke: Dinner at my place?

Just the thought alone has my stomach rumbling.

Me: I could be persuaded into that.

Luke: You’d be amazed at my power of persuasion.

My pulse quickens as a smile spreads across my face.He won’t have to do much to persuade me, especially if he kisses me again like last night. The thought alone has me brushing my fingertips along my lips.

Me: I still must get some words in. What time do you want me?

There’s a long pause, and I take a moment to reread my words.Shit! There are so many ways he could take that.

Luke: You’re welcome anytime. In fact, why don’t you come over and write on my deck?

Before I can respond, another text comes through.

Luke: I hear my couch is comfortable, if you’d rather be inside.

Me: Ha-ha. Very funny.

I’m sure he has better things to do than have me come over and write. But the thought of being in ‘the zone’ last night makes me seriously consider it.

Me: But I did get in the “zone” last night.

I’m about to add more when my phone rings.

“Seriously, Dani.” His deep, sexy timbre rings through my ears. “If you’re busy, we can get together later this evening.”

“No… I’m considering your offer. I haven’t been in the zone like that in ages. I just feel rude coming over to your house to work. You have no idea how consumed I can be when the mood strikes.”

Luke chuckles as he responds, “Oh, I think I might have an idea. But seriously. I have some work I need to do, then I’ll cook dinner. You’re welcome anytime.”

Can I really do this?I don’t really have time for distractions. But he didn’t mind last night when I checked out on him… hmmm. Then I remember that kiss and all the words that flowed through the night.

“Okay. I’ll take a shower and head over to your place.”

I arrive at Luke’s to find him on his deck typing away at his laptop. I’ve never thought much about forearms, but watching him type as I walk toward him has an effect on me I never saw coming. My mouth waters, and my heart races in excitement, making me quicken my steps to fill the distance between us.

He sets his laptop aside and stands to greet me as an inviting smile spreads across his face. “Hey, Dani.” When I walk closer, he kisses me on the cheek. “Glad you could make it,” he says breathlessly as he pulls away. The masculine scent of his cologne, mixed with a smell that’s entirely Luke, overwhelms my senses, and I sigh as he steps back.

“Thanks for inviting me,” I whisper quietly as I momentarily get lost in his deep blue eyes.

Luke breaks my concentration when he points to my courier bag and asks, “I see you came to work. Can I get you anything to drink or snack on? I have soda, beer, and wine, and was just about to pull out some pepperoni sticks from Stewarts, out in Yelm.”

My stomach rumbles at the thought of finally getting food today. “Sure, sounds great.”

As he turns to walk toward the door, he asks, “So, what did you work on that kept you up all night?”
