I glance to Maddie and she knowingly winks at me, smashing her mouth shut, making her lips form a straight line, just to keep from spilling the beans. I can’t help but smile. She’s good at secrets, but I can tell she’s dying to tell this one.

Enzo reaches over to me and grabs my hand. “Well… I know that it’s been an adjustment with me moving in here. But it’s been okay, right?”

Both Maddie and Dec nod. Simultaneously, Maddie says, “It’s the best,” while Declan says, “Yeah.”

Enzo nods and continues, “Since we’re making changes… How do you feel about adding to the mix?”

Both Frankie and Dec stare at him in confusion, then glance at me for an interpretation. “Well, Franks,” I say in a teasing tone, “I hate to break it to you, but you’re not going to be the baby of the family much longer.” I place my free hand around my belly and watch both of their eyes nearly pop out.

“Wait… You’re…” Dec stutters.

Frankie finishes as she jumps out of her seat. “Pregnant?”

“Yes, I am.” I reach out my arms to catch Frankie as she rushes in for a hug.

She places her hand on my belly and asks in wonder, “I’m finally going to be a big sister?”

“You sure are, squirt,” Maddie chimes in.

“Congratulations,” comes from Soren.

Enzo beats me to thanking Soren. I glance at Declan and realize he still hasn’t said much. “You okay, bud?”

With a look of pure dread, he says, “Please don’t let it be another girl. I can barely use the bathroom as it is.” He groans in disgust. This makes the room break into laughter, with Enzo’s the hardest.

Enzo pats Dec on the shoulder as he settles. “I can relate, Dec. If it gets too bad, I know someone who can make us a bathroom all our own.”

“Grandpops can build you one,” Frankie announces. “Then we won’t have to smell your stinkiness.”

Before this gets too out of hand, I put a stop to it. “Well, there’s more…”

“Yes! And you’re never going to believe it,” Maddie shouts over me. “Mom’s having TWINS!!!”

“You have two babies growing inside of you?” Frankie’s round eyes and high-pitched voice make me smile.

“She sure does.” Enzo’s deep voice booms and the loving look he gives me completely melts my heart.

“I won’t have to share a room, will I?”

“No, Dec. We’ll make the guest room the twins’ room,” I announce. “They’ll be the only ones sharing a room. Don’t worry. Your room’s safe.”

“What will happen when we have company?” Frankie asks.

“We’re not sure yet, kiddo,” Enzo answers. “Let’s just get through setting up a nursery first, then we can see what happens. If we run out of space, I’m sure Pops can help us figure something out.”

How does the guy always have an answer to everything?

As the youngultrasound tech moves the wand over my stomach, I look to Enzo, who’s holding my hand anxiously. His eyes widen and the tension in his body shows he’s on pins and needles as he stares at the screen. The rapid heartbeats echo through the small, dark room and I couldn’t be happier.

I turn my attention to the screen and I see the profile of a head. The baby’s fist is curled and at its mouth. I can’t help the sigh that falls from my lips. I never will get used to seeing something so precious. Just before the tech moves the wand, another hand reaches out and bumps into the baby on the screen.

“That’s a little freaky,” Enzo whispers. “They almost look like aliens.”

“Wait until you see them move,” I warn.
