“Enzo certainly has taken a liking to them.” I shake my head and look down at my chest. Crap. I can’t see my toes since my chest is in the way. “But seriously, I think we need to add shopping for bras to our list today.”
“As long as we pick up something sexy for your honeymoon, too.”
“Lex, Enzo’s seen the goods.” I point to my belly and laugh. “He’s sampled them, too, obviously. I’m not even sure something will be considered sexy in the size I’m going to need.”
“Now you’re being ridiculous, Sam. This is his first night as a married man. You need something sexy as sin that will have his heart beating out of his chest.”
The thought alone has me picking up my pace to the boutique. I can’t wait to find something that will blow Enzo’s mind.
Unfortunately, as soon as I’m back in the dressing room with a bra I thought would be my size, I realize I need to be fitted. These suckers have taken on a life of their own and I have no idea what will contain them. The sales associate comes to fit me, and my jaw drops when she reveals my size. When Lexi hears it, she laughs hysterically.
“What the fuck is E?” I mutter after the saleswoman goes to get some choices in my size.
“E is for enormous,” Lexi boldly states, like this is a normal occurrence.
“I didn’t even know they went past size D,” I complain. Holy Hell, I’m huge. I’ve always been a C-cup. How the hell did I get this big? “Being a woman, sucks.”
“No kidding,” Lexi commiserates with me, then adds with a straight face, “No man ever has to measure their parts to get something to fit. Heck, no one even thinks man parts should be supported, except for direct-contact sports.”
So many images flash through my mind at her comment. The thought alone of how they would even measure it has me in stitches, making me lean against the wall for support. “Only you would think of that, Lex. Thanks for the mental image I now need to burn from my mind.”
Once we contain our laughter, Lexi gets back to business. “Now that we know your size, let’s get you something sexy to wear.”
By the time I arrive home, I’m dead on my feet. Lexi’s a born shopper. She managed to help me find something I can’t wait to wear on my honeymoon and finish picking out Maddie’s birthday gift. The woman’s a shopping queen. I even picked up my ring for Enzo from the jewelers, now that I know his ring size.
The next morning, after getting the kids off to school, Enzo and I do some last-minute preparations for Maddie’s birthday party this evening. For some reason, Maddie convinced us having a birthday party on a Friday night would be a good idea, but this means I had to take the day off for preparation. Enzo volunteered to run errands this morning, while I cook some of Maddie’s favorite foods. Maddie thinks a taco bar will be a hit. Everyone gets what they want, and I can do a lot of the prep work earlier in the day.
At first, Maddie wanted a sleepover with a few of her closest friends. Then she wanted to invite Soren, a few of his friends, as well as some other guys. Needless to say, nearly thirty teenagers will arrive around seven.
Devin and his girlfriend Aubrey are coming over to help celebrate, as well as be adult reinforcements. This should make Maddie’s first boy-girl party interesting. Devin promises to behave, but keeps teasing her about walking around with a ruler when people dance, making sure we have every light on in the house, and that Frankie and Dec will be on patrol.Heaven help him if he actually follows through with any of this.
Just as I bend over to reach the pan of seven-layer dip at the bottom of the fridge, I feel two strong arms snake around my waist, making me yelp in surprise. How the hell can Enzo be so stealthy? Was he a ninja in another life?
“Hey, beautiful,” he whispers into my ear.
“How do you always manage to sneak up on me?” I forget about the food and twist in his arms to face him. His smile makes his dimple pop and my knees go weak. How can I still feel this way after all this time? Won’t I build up an immunity at some point?
“I simply walked in the room, Sam. Nothing to get worked up about.” He nestles into my neck and kisses up to my earlobe. “God, I hope you never get immune to me. I love how responsive you are.”
There’s a carnal need to be closer to him, but the doorbell rings and we hear feet coming down the stairs, forcing Enzo to pull away. Frankie’s the one person who will never sneak up on you in this house. I turn to hide in the fridge for a moment, regaining control of myself. Remembering why I was in here to begin with, I grab the seven-layer dip to place on the center island where I have the rest of the food laid out, ready for the party.
Enzo greets Devin and Aubrey, “Glad you could make it. Come on in. You can put the presents in the family room on the table set up, and I’ll put this beer and bottle of wine in the fridge.”
Devin reaches out his hand to shake in greeting before he walks to put the gift out of the way. Aubrey follows Enzo into the kitchen.
“Wow, Sam. You’ve outdone yourself.” She looks around hesitantly. “Is there anything I can do to help you get ready?”
“I’ve about got it covered. But if you want, you can put some serving spoons in these dishes. The kids should arrive shortly, and we told everyone to bring their appetite.” I laugh as I point to the drawer beside her to find the spoons.
Devin walks into the room and looks around. “Looks good, Sam. When will everyone arrive?”
“They’ll be here at seven,” Frankie pipes in as she picks up a chip to snack on.
Devin looks at his watch. “So, how many boys?”
Of course, he goes there. This is Devin. I shouldn’t be surprised. Maddie comes barreling into the kitchen. “Daaad, you promised,” she pleads, then looks to me for help. “Mom, you won’t let him be mean to my friends, will you?”
Before I say anything, Devin adds, “Don’t worry, Mads. I’m teasing.” He walks to her and gives her a hug. “A dad has some duties in life. Scaring boys is just part of the fun.”
