Jace grinned as he whipped the Jeep into a parking space. “Home sweet home.”

The lawn sculpture suddenly flared out its wings and Paige laughed. “Oh, my God! I didn’t think that was real!”

Jace chuckled. “You’ll see a lot of sea birds on Black Bay. Some of them get feisty if you’ve got food. One time, I thought a seagull was going to pull a shiv on me he was so determined to get one of my fries.”

As Paige threw back her head with laughter, Jace climbed out of the vehicle and jogged over to her side. He surprised her when he scooped her into his arms. As he carried her to the door, she stroked her fingers through his short hair, smoothing the thick locks. “Are you afraid I’ll run away?”

“Maybe,” Jace teased. “After all, I have no idea what Lark and the guys may have told you.”

“Well, your buddy Kong told me I smelled like you and sex.”

Jace let out a rumbling purr as he somehow managed to open the door without setting her down. “And it smells amazing.”

“He also announced to everyone within earshot that you and I were sleeping together.”

“Mm. Good. They’ll be less likely to hit on you if they know you’re mine.”

Paige’s hand drifted to the closely buzzed hair at the back of his head and she scratched gently. Her efforts were rewarded with another purr and Jace closed his eyes, his face rapturous. “Staked a claim, have you?” she asked, rather enjoying the idea.

His eyes flicked open, the yellow irises practically glowing. “Does that bother you?”

Paige shook her head as her fingers went to his lips. The tip of her middle finger stroked over his bottom lip and he sucked it into his mouth. His tongue stroked sensually over the digit and heat unfurled low in her belly.

Circumstances may have thrown them together, but she liked being with Jace. She admired his strength and his fortitude, she respected his skills as a soldier and enjoyed his wit and sense of humor. If he’d approached her in a coffee shop and began a conversation, she would have first been attracted to his looks, there was no denying that, but had he asked her out, she would have agreed because there was just something about Jace that drew her. Perhaps if they’d gone about things in the usual way it would have taken more time to fall for him, but she still would have. There was not a single doubt in her mind. The danger aspect had simply sped things up because Paige couldn’t deny it – she was head over heels in love with Jace Davies.

“I’ve staked a claim too,” she admitted softly.

“Good.” With that harshly uttered word, Jace sealed his lips to hers.

Through the haze of need and desire that fogged her mind as Jace kissed her open-mouthed and hungry, Paige was vaguely aware they were climbing stairs. Two flights, and then a short hallway. Jace pulled back just enough to breathe against her lips, “We’re here,” before he began kissing her again.

She saw none of his apartment as they went inside, too busy trying to rip his clothes off to notice anything but Jace. She vaguely heard the door slam – had he kicked it shut? – it didn’t matter. She needed skin.

Never breaking their kiss, he lowered her, and Paige felt the give of a mattress beneath her back. Aware that she now had better access to the clothes that had become an annoyance, she quickly yanked at the bottom of his shirt trying to pull it free from his pants. She heard a low growl, felt the vibration of it against her stiff nipples, and moaned.

When he pulled away, she nearly whimpered at the loss, but he only left her long enough to whip his shirt off over his head before he returned to her. Paige sighed with pleasure as her hands stroked over all of that velvety smooth skin stretched tautly over muscle. Beautiful, beautiful man… She couldn’t get enough of touching him.

With her help, Jace made quick work of her clothes as well, and the feeling of skin pressed against skin was heaven. The weight of his body covering hers was warm and welcome, a combination of safety and arousing stimulation that had her holding onto him for all she was worth. She didn’t want to lose this feeling. She didn’t want to losehim. Ever.

Paige gasped as Jace’s mouth moved from her lips to her ear. His teeth gently nipped the lobe as a purr rumbled from his throat. His mouth stroked down her throat in open-mouth kisses, his tongue tasting her as he went.

Her breath caught as his mouth latched onto the stiff peak of her nipple, his fingers nimbly toying with the other. Her hips lifted under him, moving against the hard abs of his belly, the friction so delicious she cried out at the sensation.

It all felt so good, so amazing, but Paige wanted more. She needed Jace to fill the hollow ache inside of her. But Jace didn’t seem to share her urgency, content to play with her nipples, tormenting her as he licked and stroked, pinched, and rubbed, and all the while he purred, the vibrations only serving to drive Paige wild with need.

She writhed beneath him and stroked her hands down his back as far as she could attempting to pull him further up over her body, but Jace didn’t budge. Nearly wanting to scream with her need to feel his heavy erection inside of her, Paige abandoned subtlety. “I want you inside,” she gasped out. “Now.”

Her nipple popped free of Jace’s mouth and those stunning yellow eyes, heavy-lidded and unbelievably sexy met hers. “Not yet.”

His voice was low and gruff, and the sound sent erotic shivers down her spine.

Pressing his nose against her, he inhaled and growled just before he began a journey south, licking her skin as he went.

His intent was clear, and while her hips jerked up of their own accord, eager for his arrival, her mind didn’t know if she could take it. She was already teetering on the precipice, so close it would take the barest bit of sensation to have her hurtling over, and his insistence on taking his time only made it worse.

Paige held her breath, her fingers dug into his shoulders as her heels pressed into the mattress.

Another deep inhale as he hovered over her needy sex. “You smell so good,” he growled. “So mine.”
