“It’s about time you woke up,” Jace suggestively teased as his teeth clamped down on her shoulder playfully.
Wiggling her backside, she felt the thick length of his erection jerk against her in appreciation.
One of his splayed hands slid down her belly and Paige held her breath as it continued its journey south. That breath was expelled in a hiss of pleasure as he found her swollen clit and teased it with his fingertips.
Throwing her head back, she moaned and Jace nipped her earlobe. More. She wanted more. Rocking her hips, she encouraged that hand to go deeper. Her breath hitched as his fingers slid inside while the heel of his hand pressed and rubbed, driving her wild. Within moments, he’d brought her to orgasm, her body bowing back against him before curling inward to hold his hand in place.
There was a rumbling purr as Jace kissed her neck, and her ear, and then nuzzled his face against her cheek. “Open for me,” he breathed as his hand slid down her inner thigh to her knee and nudged it upward, guiding her leg until it was hooked over his.
His hand returned to her core and stroked, gliding through the wet folds as his purrs grew louder. Paige writhed with sensual pleasure, seeking, and when the blunt head of his erection found her entrance, she reached between her legs to guide him inside.
As he thrust home, stretching her, filling her, his hand joined hers. Their fingers laced as she felt his length sliding inside, and he pressed her hand to her core so that with each thrust, her hand was pressing against that swollen bundle of nerves.
His other hand continued to rub and pluck her nipple while his mouth kissed and suckled the sensitive skin where her neck and shoulder met. Paige cried out in pleasure, her head tipping back to give him better access to her throat.
“I’m going to come,” she gasped out as her eyes squeezed shut.
“Yes, Paige. Come for me. Let me feel it,” Jace growled in her ear, and with a broken cry of pleasure, she hurtled into bliss.
Jace’s breathing hitched and his arms tightened around her. His thrusts grew jerky and rough. His teeth latched onto her shoulder, the points of his fangs not breaking the skin, but clamping tightly enough to hold her in place, and with a low, rough growl of completion, she felt his erection kick inside, filling her to overflowing.
For several minutes, the only sound in the room was their heavy panting breaths, before Paige uttered a quiet, “Wow.”
“My thoughts exactly,” Jace returned, his breathing still not quite steady. His hand swept her hair back from her face and he kissed the nape of her neck and then a spot right behind her ear.
God, this was nice. Not just the sex, though that was incredible. The best she’d ever had. But she didn’t think she’d ever felt so warm and content. Being held in Jace’s arms was the best feeling in the world and for a few moments, she could pretend that it was just the two of them – no problems, no worries, just peace.
It was on the tip of her tongue to tell him that she wouldn’t mind waking up every morning like this, but she bit the words back when reality intruded. They’d been thrown together by dangerous circumstances and he’d been forced to bring her along to protect her. This was temporary, and nothing Jace had said implied that he wanted more. She’d do well to remember that or she’d only end up with a broken heart. Paige grimaced fearing it was already too late.
They shared a shower and made love again after that mind-blowing good morning in bed. Then, they hit a diner in town and binged on a huge pancake breakfast before hitting the road. When Paige asked him to tell her more about his friends, he readily volunteered some of the more amusing stories of adjusting to life outside of the lab.
Having spent the first half of their lives in a medical facility, much of what most people considered common knowledge, they had to learn. Clothes were one of those things they’d never had to deal with. Instead of a uniform that showed up in their cells clean and ready to wear, they now had hundreds of choices. Fabrics, colors, styles, and all of which they had to learn to wash and care for themselves.
Paige hooted with laughter when he told her the story about Kong accidentally shrinking all of his new shirts in the dryer. But she laughed so hard she cried when he shared the first time Lark tried out high heels, and how Kong later squeezed his giant feet into a pair to show her how it was done.
“I thought the general was going to have a heart attack when he saw one of his toughest soldiers prancing around in heels.”
“Oh, my God,” she gasped between chuckles. “I can just imagine.” Swiping at her streaming eyes, she asked, “What else? What other things did you have to adjust to?”
“Food.” Meals no longer just showed up on trays at certain times of the day for them to either eat or go hungry. It had to be prepared, and in that too, they’d had choices. “For several months I swear we didn’t eat the same thing twice. We wanted to try everything. We badgered the humans on staff to tell us about the different foods available and teach us how to prepare them.”
Glancing over at Paige with a grin, he told her, “I think pizza was the biggest hit. That and ice cream.”
“Pizza and ice cream are the best,” she agreed with a bright smile.
“We also had to learn to clean up after. Let me tell you, there were quite a few broken plates and glasses before we finally got the hang of things.”
“You mentioned human staff?”
Jace nodded. “When we were first brought to Black Bay there were a bunch of people there to help us acclimate.” He shrugged. “Not so much anymore.”
Paige turned in her seat so her back was to the door and she was facing him more fully. “I meant, why do you call them human? I mean, you’re enhanced and all, I get that, but you’re human too.”
Their primary DNA may be human but they were so much more. Faster, stronger, predatory, and aggressive. They’d also been called freaks and abominations. The General had tried to shield them from the worst of it and had quickly gotten rid of anyone he’d deemed intolerant, but he hadn’t been able to block it out completely. In the first few months, there had been quite a few incidents as well as a lot of fights… But Jace didn’t want to talk about that. He preferred Paige happy and laughing, not looking at him with sympathy, or worse, pity. So, he shrugged. “I guess we’ve always just differentiated ourselves that way.”
Some of what he’d been thinking about must have bled through to his expression because Paige reached out and touched his arm. “Does it bother you to talk about this?”
“Not at all,” he told her, hoping his smile looked sincere.
