With a growl, he collapsed with her to the bed. There was still so much of her body he wanted to explore, so much he wanted to taste, but the blunt head of his erection had already found its home and as Jamie rolled her hips with a look of ecstasy, he was lost. Mindless in his need, he thrust forward with a harsh shout as her welcoming heat squeezed his length so sweetly.Mine. The word reverberated through his head. Both wolf and man united as they staked their claim.
Shit. He was going to come. There was no holding it back as his balls tightened and lightning seemed to shoot down his spine. The thought of leaving her behind had him gritting his teeth, his hand sliding between them so his fingers could work that sweet bundle of nerves at the apex of her sex.
“Yes.Yes,” Jamie cried out, her head kicked back, her hips rolling against him. “Oh, God,Archer!”
Gripping the back of her neck, he pulled her to his throat. “Bite.” The word was snarled, barely human, and as her teeth sunk into his vein, her sex throbbed around him in an orgasm that shot him over the edge. His body releasing with such force, he nearly blacked out.She is mine…
Releasing his throat with a satisfied groan, Jamie licked the wound she’d left behind before collapsing back into the pillows. Archer’s blood had been an exhilarating rush only intensified by the power of the orgasm that had rocked through her body. She felt boneless, yet at the same time brimming with power. Completely relaxed but also giddy. Was shifter blood always so powerful or was it the taste of an alpha – this alpha in particular?
Her hands stroked over his smooth golden skin, playing idly in the dark thatch of hair that covered his chest where he wasn’t pressed against her. His breath was leaving him in hard pants and Jamie smiled smugly. She’d done that to him. His lips settled on her shoulder with a sweet kiss and her arms went around him to hug him close, her legs tightening around his hips. Her grin widened as she felt him stir where they were still joined and she couldn’t resist rocking her hips against him. She heard his breath catch, felt her own hitch in her chest at the erotic glide of his hard length inside her.
Propping himself up on arms that bulged with strength, Archer looked down at her with heavy-lidded eyes. “There’s so much I want to do to you,” he breathed. “So much pleasure I want to give you.”
His words combined with the sexy growl just below the surface had her core pulsing around him and Jamie bit her lip as she watched his eyes close with pleasure. On a groan, he told her, “I wanted to love you so slow, make it so good for you…”
Like he’d done something wrong? Did he not realize how explosive it had been for her? How perfect? Jamie couldn’t imagine anything better than what they’d just shared, but the second time around, with Archer rocking his hips against her, hard yet slow, wringing hoarse cries from her as his mouth suckled at her nipples, his hips shifting to grind against her so sweetly. The pleasure built, growing in intensity, her body becoming so sensitive that when the orgasm finally crashed over her, the waves kept coming, so powerful, she couldn’t hold back her loud cry of fulfillment, the sound echoing through the cavernous space.
A howl rent the air, followed by another and another. Tomorrow, she’d be mortified that the pack had heard and knew what was happening, but right now, the combination of Archer’s blood and the power of her orgasm had her focused on one thing and one thing alone: keeping Archer Langley.
Chapter Twenty-One
Archer hated to leave Jamie, had to practically drag his ass out of bed, but he had to go retrieve his daughter. In a pair of sweats and a T-shirt he’d borrowed from Travis’s closet, with what remained of his demolished suit tucked under his arm, he trudged through his territory by the light of the dying fires. It was much later than he had anticipated. Really late. Or early depending on how you looked at it. Assuming Marceline would be sleeping right along with his daughter, he crept in as quietly as possible only to have a light flick on, displaying Marceline glaring at him from her spot in a recliner.
“You reek of sex with that vampire.”
Archer’s hackles rose. As alpha, he may have a relatively laid-back approach with his pack, but that certainly didn’t give them the right to treat him like an errant child being called on the carpet. “Excuse me?” He snarled, eyes flashing silver as his wolf came to the fore to answer the unspoken challenge.
Marceline didn’t shrink back, in fact, she stood, her fisted hands landing on her ample hips. “What changed?”
Archer growled long and low. “I know your tone needs to change. Do not forget who’s alpha here.”
The woman refused to back down. “I’m not the one forgetting. As alpha you know thatthingdoesn’t belong here. She’ll bring nothing but trouble to this pack. Get rid of her.”
His temper snapped, the snarl leaving him loud and vicious as he lunged toward the woman, only managing to pull himself back at the last second. With a growl he paced away, trying to regain his control. Finally, he turned back and glared, his finger thrusting at her. “You do not give me orders, Marceline, and Jamie is not a thing. She’s my mate.”
All the color drained from Marceline’s face, a shaky hand rising to her throat as she gasped, “No.”
Archer made a cutting gesture with his hand. “It’s done and another word from you will be taken as a challenge and dealt with as such. Is that understood?”
“Daddy?”
Archer closed his eyes, willing his wolf to back down before his daughter witnessed its rage.
“Is everything all right?”
Cady was standing in the doorway, gripping her stuffed animal, and knuckling the sleep from her eyes. “Everything’s fine, princess.”
Of course, Marceline picked that moment to put the lie to his words as she burst into a loud torrent of tears and collapsed back into the recliner. Cady’s eyes widened. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, baby,” Archer said, scooping his daughter into his arms and pressing her head to his shoulder before he turned and strode out the door. He wished that too wasn’t a lie. Marceline wasn’t the only one who would question his decision, she was simply the first. Some of the stronger pack members may well challenge him for leadership in light of his choice of mate and they had that right. But what he’d said to Marceline was the truth. Itwasdone. Jamie was his mate. His wolf had chosen her and there was no going back. The only decision left was whether his pack chose to continue to follow him or backed a new leader.
Little hands petted his new, shorter beard as if his daughter sensed he needed comforting. Kissing the top of her head he stroked her back. She yawned, then leaned away from him to ask, “How was the date? Was it romantic?” And then with a wide smile, “Did you kiss her good night?”
Archer couldn’t help but smile and he rubbed his nose against hers. “The date was fun, I thought it was pretty romantic, and none of your business.”
Cady’s eyes sparkled, and his daughter suddenly seemed wide awake. “That means you did,” she happily told him, patting his whiskers again. “We need to figure out the next date. I’ll get my art supplies.”
Archer barked a laugh, his fingers tickling under Cady’s arms as she giggled and squirmed. “You’re going back to bed. We can talk about another date at breakfast.”
