“Therapy is for—” she starts, but I interrupt her, my voice firm and unyielding.

“People who would like to have a healthy relationship with others,” I say, my gaze locked with hers. I can see the wheels turning in her mind, the internal struggle as she grapples with the idea of seeking help.

“Then therapy it is,” she confirms. “Will you ever move to Boston?”

I shake my head. “Sorry, I love the sun and the beach and my boyfriend works here too.”

“That Ben character?” she asks carefully.

“No, Liam.”

“I thought you said it was pretend.” She glances at the ring I’m wearing.

“We have a complicated relationship, but we’re planning on untangling it.”

“I like Liam. He’s always been good to you,” she states.

“He has and we discovered that we love each other, so . . . we’ll see how this goes,” I say, not adding anything else. “Why don’t we go and catch up with Dad? He might take us to dinner. You must be starving.”

“I am,” she agrees, and after giving her a hug, we leave my place with a lighter heart and a promise for a better tomorrow as mother and daughter.

Chapter Thirty-Four

Audrey:My parents were here earlier today.

Liam:I thought they were going to Italy.

Audrey:They are, but postponed their trip to come. Mom wanted to fix our relationship.

Liam: Is it fixed?

Audrey:No, but we talked about it and we have a planto start to heal.

Liam:Glad things are working out.

Audrey:They’re for me, how about you?

Liam:Mom agreed to help me with the bookstore. We’re interviewing store managers, cashiers, and other employees.

Audrey:Can the store afford them? I thought you said they were broke.

Liam:I’m injecting some cash into it. After all, this will be our children’s legacy one day.

Audrey:Whoa, buddy. That’s taking a million steps from the whole let’s start dating.

Liam:You’re right, but I couldn’t help but think about that the first day I saw how bad things were.

Audrey:Wow . . . children.

Liam:You don’t want to have any?

Audrey:I haven’t thought about it.

Liam:It’s just a thought you know, but I’ll be happy if it’s just the two of us.

Audrey:I think we concentrate on dating right now, what do you think?

Liam: I like that.
