Supper was a quiet, intimate meal they’d both helped prepare, followed by a make-out session on the couch. Afterward, Zak gave Orrin a tour of the clinic and the house. When they reached the basement, Orrin wanted to know all about his exercise equipment and routine. A demonstration followed involving the weight bench, and Orrin got excited when the sexy man lay down to demonstrate a bench press. Seeing Zak on his back, legs spread, and muscles engaged—it was too much to resist, and Orrin unzipped the man’s pants, pulled out his dick, and went to town.
After an explosive finish, Zak sat up and pulled Orrin into his lap for kisses.
“I hope you realize that every time I use this bench, I’m going to be thinking about what we just did. Not that I’m complaining, but the memory is going to be… distracting.”
Orrin laughed.
“Good! I like the thought of you all sweaty and flustered. In fact, someday you’re going to take me right here, and it will give you another memory.”
Zak swatted him on the portion of ass he could reach, and Orrin winked at him.
“Do that again, and I’ll never leave…”
With a wry smile, Zak shook his head.
“What happened to the sweet, gentle, man I met last week?”
Orrin leaned over to nibble at Zak’s pierced left earlobe, flicking his tongue over the diamond stud.
“Oh, he’s still here. Just wearing a different hat, that’s all. They say it’s the quiet ones you have to worry about the most.”
Zak kissed him.
“I won’t worry unless you change. I like your naughty side.”
They shared a few more smooches and then Zak took Orrin home. Instead of dropping him off at the front door, he drove around the back of the house so Orrin could use the private entrance and avoid being mobbed by the cubs. Orrin invited him in, his very first guest, and showed him around. Zak was pleased to see that the home was well-constructed and designed for shifters—durable, roomy, and tastefully appointed. It consisted of three stories—kitchen, dining, living room, half bath, and laundry on the first floor, with bedrooms, bathrooms, and play space above.
Zak noted that Orrin huffed right past a closed door on the second-floor without comment, and continued the tour. Based on the concentrated scent in the hallway, Zak assumed it had to have been Orrin’s bedroom; a sacrosanct space that shifters onlyshared with their intended mate. Even if Orrin’s bear thought they belonged together, it was too soon to for either of them to be thinking about such a life-changing and permanent decision. Zak gave no outward sign of Orrin’s mild discomfort, and on the way back down to the first floor, his host provided a brief history of the property.
“The Cub House is a classic brick colonial, built in the early thirties for a local lumber baron. It was in foreclosure when Dash Hawthorn bought it, had it completely updated and refurbished, and donated it to the BSA as an orphan home. Everything was done by the time I arrived, but from what the neighbors have told me, it needed alotof work. Dash and Aiden are frequent guests, and love spoiling the cubs, so they know me pretty well. I’m not one to complain, but they could see how difficult it was to care for so many little ones by myself and decided to do something about it.
“Dash made a deal with the BSA home office to add a full-time helper in exchange for the primary administrator’s home, and they finished it right before Christmas. If I know him, his foundation probably made a generous donation to help cover the cost of hiring someone, and having Tasha here has made a huge difference. I love the cubs and what I do, but it’s wonderful to have my own space, some time off, and still be just a few steps away if I’m needed.”
By now, they’d returned to the living room, and Zak took both of Orrin’s hands in his own.
“I’m so happy for you, Orrin. You’ve got lots of space, a big backyard, and no commute—what’s not to like? Dash has to be one of the most kind and generous people I’ve ever met. I wonder if he and Aiden have ever considered adopting some cubs?”
Orrin surprised him with his answer.
“Don’t share this with anyone, but I’m in the early stages of working with two local families besides the Cunninghams—Dash and Aiden, and the McCoys. It’s an unusual situation, but I think the cubs we have right now would be a good fit for both couples and we’re planning a meet and greet soon so they can get acquainted.”
Zak was more than pleased.
“That’s great! I’ve gotten to know them fairly well, and I bet they’d make terrific parents. I can only imagine how fulfilling it is to find good homes for the little ones. I’m glad you’re here, and not only for the cubs.”
Zak pulled Orrin close for goodnight kisses, prompting sexy moans from the sweet-smelling man. They found it difficult to stop, but each had busy days ahead, and Orrin led Zak to the door.
“You’re welcome to visit anytime—me or the cubs. Just give me a little advance notice. I know you’ll be super busy with the clinic opening up this week, but we’d love for you to join us for supper if that’s the only time you can make it. Of course, I could stay over at your place on Sunday or Thursday night.”
Zak chastised himself for feeling clingy, but going home to an empty bed that smelled like Orrin wouldn’t be easy.
“We’ll work it out, I promise. For now, I’m all yours every Thursday evening and Sunday, and if we can squeeze in more, we will. You, Rayn, and Kip haven’t seen the last of me.”
One more kiss and Zak was gone, leaving Orrin alone, but with some wonderful memories to dream about.
