Chapter 11
RJ WOUND HIS WAY OUTof downtown Gladstone, jumped on Highway Forty-one, and headed north. The twelve-minute drive gave him time to process what happened back there. His dick, still hard as a rock and leaking through to his uniform pants, made it almost impossible to think of anything except sex. If Jonah had given him even the slightest encouragement, he’d have done the deed right there in the office.
Damn! He couldn’t understand what made him so wild for Jonah Blair. Well, that wasn’t exactly true. Besides his incredible scent, there were many reasons: looks, body, voice, intellect—all tangled up in a strange combination of vulnerability and inner strength he’d never encountered before. And, heknewthe man wanted him. Another solid inducement to take him home for keeps. How could two strangers develop such potent chemistry so quickly?
RJ rounded a bend in the road heading east and merged with Highway Two on the outskirts of Rapid River. After another mile or so he almost missed his turn—distracted by thoughts he couldn’t control. Perhaps supper would give him something else to focus on for a while and clear his head. RJ laughed at himself, knowing full well nothing short of a small nuclear device would dislodge Jonah from his mind. Even then, he doubted it.

JONAH FRETTED ALL THEway home.
Ben, Evan, and the kids must have noticed his lack of visits by now. He missed them all, especially Evie, but both his brother and his mate would know if he lied to them about, well, anything! Jonah needed to steer clear of the packhouse too, and all the questions his friends might ask. No matter what went on, nothing remained a secret for long, and he couldn’t risk it yet.
It relieved him that Robyn already knew and promised to say nothing. Unfortunately, the price for silence was sharing what went on this afternoon in detail. He didn’t mind, honestly, as nothing intimate took place, and she might have some good advice. Jonah turned in at the main entrance and waved at the guard as he lifted the gate. He’d have to park and get to the house without talking to anyone, as his scent, or RJ’s would surely give something away. Of course, if they noticed his strange behavior, the jig was up anyway.
Crap! Shifters were no good at this cloak and dagger stuff. Maybe Luna would see fit to help him out this one time—even if he’d been kind of pissy about things. Jonah arrived at the parking lot to find it half empty. Good. Fewer people at home meant fewer chances of being spotted and questioned. He peered out the windows of his maroon Subaru and then cracked the door open to get a whiff of who might be nearby.
Miraculously, the coast was clear, and he jogged directly for home by giving the packhouse a wide berth. He waved at the few people who spotted him but didn’t slow down until safely inside. With the front door locked, he stripped on the way to the laundry room, starting a small load with his work clothes. Next, a shower to get the rest of RJ’s scent off of him. Jonah scrubbed from top to bottom, pointedly ignoring his dick for now, as there were important things to do. After dressing quickly, he texted Robyn.
>I’m home. Can you come over?
>Be right there! I’ll bring supper.
Next, he sent a text to Jack.
>I need to talk to you tonight, in private. Please! It’s important.
Jonah went to throw his clothes in the dryer, finishing up as his phone pinged with a text.
>When you are ready, I will come over.
>Thank you, Jack!
A knock on the front door reminded Jonah he’d locked it earlier. The mingled scents of Robyn and supper meant it was safe to answer, and he let her in. Once inside, she used her free arm to hug her best friend.
“It’s going to be all right. I know you’re scared and worried right now, but your packmates love you. And, if anybody gives you shit, they’ll have to answer to me.”
She managed to make him laugh.
“Yeah, try that on Ben and see what happens!”
Robyn shook her head and sighed, leading the way towards the table with the food. Within a couple of minutes, they sat down to eat and talk. Robyn barely took one bite before beginning the conversation.
“So? What happened? Did you have to defend your virtue?”
Jonah choked, nearly making a mess of his clean shirt.
“No, you idiot! And the break room is still clean if you get my meaning.”
“How disappointing. Haven’t I taught you anything? Tell me whatdidhappen, then. I’ve been waiting for hours!”
