Alone in the truck, RJ blushed at the memory while fighting to keep another erection at bay. Somehow this purely professional visit morphed into a distinctly personal one without knowing how it happened. Another lightning bolt flashed, followed by a basso rumbling thunderclap that shook the vehicle. Driving slowly, wipers on full speed, he spotted the building and pulled into a parking spot near the door. Hmm... with virtually no other cars nearby, he and Blair should have plenty of time to talk without interruption.

JONAH CAUGHT A FLASHof headlights through the front windows while dusting off the gift shop shelves for the third time. Heavy rain and thunder prevented him from hearing the truck as it pulled in at five minutes to three. Itmustbe RJ. His heart pounded in anticipation, wolf yapping excitedly in his head. He stood ready with the door open, waving his visitor inside.
The truck’s uniformed occupant made a mad dash towards the building and brushed past Jonah in an intoxicating cloud of scent. Momentarily distracted, Jonah was knocked off balance when a strong gust of wind slammed into the door, throwing him into RJ’s arms. Held upright in an awkward embrace, Jonah quickly buried his nose against the man’s neck. He smelled like a microcosm of the forest—soil, living things, rain, and man.His man. If only he could stay right there, drinking his fill until their clothes came off, and he...
A masculine chuckle broke the spell, and Jonah turned red as RJ pulled back without letting go completely.
“I hope the door didn’t hit you too hard. Are you all right?”
Jonah’s vocal apparatus wasn’t working, and he only managed to nod his head. RJ smiled and let him go with another laugh.
“Do you greet all your guests this way, or is it only me?”
Jonah didn’t mind the teasing, but his blush returned with a vengeance. He steeled himself against a tsunami of attraction and desire while silently warning his wolf to settle down.
“S... sorry about that. Maybe we can start over?”
Jonah cleared his throat and tried again, hand extended.
“I’m Jonah Blair. Welcome to the LRC.”
He trembled when their hands touched, hoping his mate would let go before he lost all sense of propriety.
“RJ Wilson. A real pleasure to meet you.”
Jonah watched RJ’s nostrils flair and eyes widen. Years of experience told him the incredibly handsome human male noticed his scent and wouldn’t understand why he found it so compelling. Right on cue, and without releasing Jonah’s hand, RJ stepped into his personal space, breathing deeper still. Brown eyes met blue, locked together in an unspoken declaration of mutual attraction.
Jonah’s dick swelled as the scent of arousal filled the small space between them. At this point, he usually instructed the besotted human to back off. Not now.Thishuman was welcome to do anything he wanted, though Jonah dared not say it aloud. He needed to douse the fire quickly before it engulfed both of them. Urged by his wolf to get even closer, Jonah took a step backward instead. RJ seemed startled when he realized how close he’d gotten without actually meaning to.
Jonah’s cell phone went off, saving both of them from embarrassment. He held up a finger and answered. It was Robyn.
“This is Jonah. Will you hold, please?”
He turned to a smiling RJ and made his excuses.
“Forgive me; I need to take this call. Please take a look around, and I promise to return quickly.”
RJ lifted his chin and turned towards the gift shop.
“No problem. You take care of business.”
Jonah mouthed a “thank you” and briskly headed for his office, shutting the door behind him.
“Robyn! What are you doing?”
Wicked laughter told him she enjoyed this a little too much.
“Did I interrupt anything?”
“No! Yes! Well, maybe. I can’t hide in here forever, and he’s waiting in the gift shop. I’ve managed not to do anything inappropriate yet, but I sure want to!”
“Which is why I called. I don’t want to find spunk all over the breakroom tomorrow, so get your shit together. RJ thinks he’s there to learn about wolves, so do your job and educate him. I wager ten bucks that man is going to ask you out before he leaves.”
Jonah groaned, secretly hoping she was right.
“Stop already! I’m trying to keep my hands off of him, and you aren’t helping. Look, I’m glad you called, but I have to get back out there.”
