“Yes!”
RJ beamed at the enthusiastic response.
“How about tomorrow night. Dinner at six?”
Jonah nodded dreamily.
“Perfect. I can’t wait!”
“Where should I pick you up?”
Concern flickered across Jonah’s face before his smile returned.
“Uh... it would be better if I met you here, and then we can go together.”
RJ raised an eyebrow at the odd request.
“All right. What kind of food do you like?”
“Anything, really. Steak is my favorite.”
“Good! There’s a place down in Escanaba called Giuseppe’s that I’ve been eager to try but didn’t want to go by myself.”
Both men stood, wondering what came next. Jonah tore himself away to retrieve RJ’s heavy jacket and cap.
“It’s still raining out there. You’ll need these.”
RJ put the jacket on, zipped it up, and placed the cap snugly over his closely cropped hair. He pulled a phone from his pants pocket.
“Why don’t we exchange numbers—you know, in case something comes up last minute?”
Jonah gave him a knowing look and winked.
“Sure, if I can have a picture to go with it.”
“Fair enough.”
They each posed for a photo and punched in the numbers, giggling as if they were doing something naughty. With no more reason for delay, it was time to part. Now facing one another, their eyes locked once more amidst a cloud of mingled scent. RJ glanced down at Jonah’s tempting mouth and boldly leaned over to kiss him. Jonah shook his head, hand flat against RJ’s muscled chest.
“Please, we can’t. You’re so... and I want you... but not here, not now.”
RJ nodded, in total agreement with everything Jonahdidn’tsay.
“OK. May I have a hug instead?”
Jonah lurched forward, their bodies touching from thigh to chest as he wrapped strong arms around the sexy man. He paused just long enough to drink in more mind-boggling scent, and with a final squeeze, stepped back. They were both hard, and neither seemed to care at this point.
RJ smiled broadly, touching the brim of his cap.
“Until tomorrow then. Goodnight.”
Jonah watched his mate leave the building, sprinting through the rain to his truck. He waved in response to a single honk, following taillights down the street until they disappeared. Heart aching, Jonah turned with a sigh and prepared to go home. With Jack’s help, he intended to find out everything he could about mating with a human—hoping, somehow, Ben wouldn’t find out.
