Ben answered as they strolled towards their home.

“No, of course not. We’ll question Bluett and let him go, minus a few memories. Is he the only reason you’re here?”

Though he deserved it, the question stung.

“I came for my mate. I don’t want to live without Jonah, and now he’s in danger. Please, may I see him?”

The trio stopped right outside the front door. Evan answered the question.

“Not yet. Since yesterday, Jonah has been staying with us, and you need to understand a few things before going in there. I’m sure you have questions about us and what it means to have a shifter mate. We’ll tell you everything you need to know, but expect to make a fair number of changes to your thinking. You are also bound to keep our secret, neverrevealing our true nature to anyone.

“Jonah is already committed to you for life. It’s not something he can change or walk away from. If you intend to claim your mate, he will expect you to move in with him immediately and never leave him again. Are you prepared to do this?”

What RJ once feared now sounded like a precious gift.

“I am. Jonah is all I want.”

Both men smiled, each giving RJ a quick hug before Ben spoke.

“Then welcome to the family. Now go get him!”

They walked through the door together, and RJ’s knees nearly buckled at the concentrated scent of his mate. Oh, what a glorious aroma! He’d missed it more than he realized, stirring mind, heart, and cock in equal measure. He didn’t see Jonah, and RJ wasn’t sure where to look. The patter of a dozen little feet warned him the posse was coming, and sure enough, the kids flooded into the room. Evie darted ahead, calling his name, and RJ crouched down to accept her hug. Her brothers crowded around in a growly scenting frenzy, as happy as their sister to see him again.

“RJ! ItoldUncle Jonah you would come back. He’s been so sad without you. Come on!”

He took her outstretched hand, and Evie led the way. When they neared the bedroom door, the boys surged ahead to get Jonah’s attention, all pounding and shouting at the same time.

“He’s here, Uncle Jonah!”

“Come out – it’s your mate!”

“Hurry up!”

“We won’t let him get away!”

Behind the battered door, Jonah’s heart beat wildly. RJ was here? It wasn’t a dream or his imagination? The racket in the hall stopped suddenly, and Rascal’s voice penetrated his confused brain.

“Please, Jo? I need to talk to you.”

Unable to resist his mate, a cautious yet hopeful Jonah opened the door. The kids backed away to let him through, and RJ noted the dark smudges under his eyes, rumpled clothing, and unshaven face. He’d never looked more handsome. Evie pushed RJ closer and then joined the rest of the family in the background to watch. Jonah spoke first.

“You... you’re here!”

RJ took both of his hands and kissed them.

“I came for you—if you still want me.”

Jonah had to know if RJ truly understood what he was saying.

“Do you mean it, Rascal? Will you stay here with me?”

“Yes, Jo. We belong together. It took a while to see it, but I’m back for good. I love you.”

Jonah nearly burst as his wolf howled with rapturous joy.

“MATE!”

RJ staggered as Jonah grabbed him, frantically ravishing his mouth with kisses. They found it difficult to smile and smooch at the same time but somehow managed it anyway. Their audience cheered as the couple headed for the front door. Ben opened it and followed them outside, watching as they made their way toward Jonah’s home.
