“The better question is what areyoudoing on campus? You don’t live on campus.”

He smirks, “I was looking for someone. Didn’t find him.”

Part of me wonders if thehimhe’s referring to is actually a her, but the other part of me doesn’t care.

“Well, I’m headed back to my dorm.”

“Where were you?” He noses, taking a quicker step to catch up.

I cross my bare arms over my chest, feeling the wind. “I was at the library studying with Remi.”

“That guy is a fucking joke, Quinn. You deserve so much better than that idiot. Plus, he didn’t even walk you back to your dorm.”

I am nearly fuming, “He didn’t walk me back because I didn’t want him to. I don’t need someone constantly holding my hand.”

The fact that he’s here right now makes me even more angry and I feel my entire body ignite with emotion. He basically kept me under a rock for two years and for the life of me, I’m not sure whether it was because he didn’t want to hurt me or he didn’t want me to tell anyone the truth and hurt Raelynn.

I don’t even know who he was protecting.

“I know you don’t,” He acknowledges. “Just promise me that you’ll be careful. I don’t want you to get hurt. I know the guys on my team, babe, and they aren’t the kind of guy you want.”

I raise my brow, “And you are?”

He shakes his head and his eyes fill with regret, “I want to be, Quinn. I want to get back there.”

The way he stares at me feels so familiar and I can’t lie and say that it doesn’t make me feel comfortable. Because it does.

I hate that.

“Where have you been?” I ask Remi, as he struts in mine and Levi’s apartment.

“Yeah bro,” Levi groans, “we’ve been waiting for like two hours.”

“Studying,” he shrugs. “Ran into a friend at the library and we couldn’t stop talking.”

“A friend, ay?” Levi wiggles his eyebrows, causing Remi to blush.

“Yeah, the girl from history. Quinn.”

Levi cringes, “I’m sorry, bro.”

“It’s alright,” He shrugs. “She used to date Collins, and that is some baggage I’m not sure I want. Even if she is hot.”

“Collins?” Levi asks, surprised. “They dating now?”

“No,” Remi says, “but he walks around peeing on her like they are.”

“That’s gross,” I huff. “I don’t know how any female could put up with his ego.”

Remi shakes his head, “Quinn is so good, bro. She’s like the nicest girl I’ve ever seen, and she seems patient enough to deal with him, but I don’t think she wants to.”

“Wonder why they broke up?” Levi speaks up.

“I don’t know.” Remi says, taking his backpack off and slipping it onto the back of one of the dining room chairs. “Seems like he fucked up the way he’s following her around.”
