“Sure,” I reply, standing and sliding my phone into my pocket. I take the bag from her, and when we walk by the car, I lock the books in the trunk. We proceed to the bar and grill to grab some food.
With it being lunch, the place isn’t as busy as it was the other night. We find a table easily, and the server is with us a moment later. We order drinks and appetizers to get started, and we’re left alone to decide what we want as our main course. That’s when I bring up my idea.
“So I was thinking…” I start, and she looks away from the menu in her hands up to me with interest. “While I was watching the cameras this morning,” I say, changing my mind on my approach. “I found the guy outside of the property. He’s realized now that there is no easy way in. He also found the cameras. He was angry about that, and he ripped one down and stomped it until it no longer worked.”
Her brows lift. “Wow, so this guy is pretty aggressive then, huh?”
I nod. “That’s an understatement. I saw what he did to the camera. I don’t want to see what he could do to you.”
Suddenly, she looks a little afraid.
“Anyway, this guy’s world is about to be turned upside down. His access to you has been cut off, so he’s about to get desperate. On the one hand, that’s a good thing because it will make him act irrationally. He’ll get in a hurry and get caught. But on the other hand, that makes him even more dangerous to you. So I was thinking that I would hire a team to watch the property and just to be safe, to take every safety measure we can, you should go somewhere.”
Her brows lift as her eyes stretch wide. “Leave? Where would I go?”
I shrug. “Maybe go stay with your family for a few days, a week tops?” I suggest.
She shakes her head. “No, no way.”
“I want you out of danger, Abby.”
“I understand that, but as long as I have you with me, there is no danger. I’ll leave, but you’re my head of security, and I want you with me. Do we have a deal?”
“You really think your family is going to like me staying at their house?”
She shakes her head. “We won’t go there. We’ll take off and have an adventure. A beach sounds nice. How about Hawaii?”
I laugh. “You want me to go to Hawaii with you?”
She nods. “We’ll stay at a resort with our own private beach and get massages every evening and drink alcohol with breakfast every morning.” She laughs. “Come on. What do you say?”
I roll my eyes. “Fine. I’ll get these guys in to interview today and tomorrow, and we’ll plan on leaving Wednesday. I’ll leave the trip planning up to you.”
She smiles and starts to dance in her seat. “We’re going to have so much fun.”
The server is back, and she’s putting our drinks on the table before rushing off to check on our appetizers. While Abby gets on her phone and starts looking for places to stay, I get on my phone and start calling the applicants to set up the interviews. I hope and pray they can catch this guy while we’re gone. I don’t want to see how upset this guy gets when he realizes his access to her has been completely cut off. I cross my fingers and pray that this all ends before things get out of hand.
When our food gets put on the table, we both put our phones away, and instead, we enjoy the food and one another. After we eat, we hit a few more stores in town where she buys new bikinis for our trip and anything else she finds that she needs, and then we’re heading back to the house with a couple of hours to spare until dinner. The rest of our day is spent poolside with cold drinks, kisses, and stolen touches and glances.

The next few days fly by with how busy the two of us are. Kaden manages to interview the guys who applied for the position, and he hires the best of the best as he calls them. I spend most of my time planning our trip, and first thing Wednesday morning, we’re off. A car picks us up to take us to the airport. We hop on our flight, and we make the trip to Hawaii, where we rent a car to drive to the resort. We make it just before dinnertime, but we decide to take a few moments to ourselves and unpack our belongings before finding a place for dinner.
After we unpack and get settled, we’re both a little wiped from our journey, so we end up calling it a night and just order room service. We eat out on the balcony as we watch the ocean make its way up onto the land. It’s warm and romantic, and I know this is better than any restaurant we could’ve picked.
After we eat, we decide to unwind with some wine and a soak in the Jacuzzi that’s in our suite. I strip down to nothing and finish my glass of wine. I pour another and turn, finding him already in the water. His green eyes are glued to me as I walk across the bathroom floor and climb inside. I sit across from him, and he grabs my foot and pulls it onto his lap, where he begins massaging it.
“It’s been a long day,” I say, leaning my head back against the edge of the tub and closing my eyes to relax. “Have you heard anything from the guys?”
“I told them to call or text me at any time to keep me updated. I guess there haven’t been any updates because I haven’t heard anything from them yet.”
“Good. You need a break from all of this too, you know?”
He tugs my foot until I’m over in his lap. I giggle the whole way. I set my glass of wine on the edge of the tub, and I wrap my arms around his neck as I straddle him.
“I’m not taking a break until this guy is caught. You’re going to get your life back. I promise,” he says, whispering the words against my lips before kissing me.
