“This job will be around the clock. I need someone who can get the kids up in the morning for school. Get them dressed and make sure they brush their teeth. You’ll have to cook their breakfasts and pack their lunches. Take them to school. While they’re at school, between the hours of eight A.M. and two-thirty P.M., you can do your own thing or use that time to clean up the house, catch up on laundry, go to the market, that sort of thing. After you pick them up, you’ll have to bring them home and help Xander with his homework. They usually want an after-school snack. Dinner is on you as well, along with getting them to bed. Once they are in bed, you can do your own thing as long as you are around if they wake up or need something. I’ll be here most of the time unless I need to go into the office for something, but I will be in my office working so I won’t be here to fall back on.”

“Okay,” she nods.

“You’re not running away and screaming yet, so I’ll show you the house.” I stand up and she follows me into the kitchen. “The laundry room is through here,” I say, opening a door in the kitchen that leads to the laundry room and spare bathroom. “That’s the backyard,” I tell her as we walk back through the kitchen. “Feel free to use the pool and hot tub as you’d like. I’ll take you upstairs and show you where you’ll be staying.” I lead her up the stairs and into the guest bedroom. It’s fully furnished.

“The bed is a queen size. The closet,” I say, pointing toward the door, “is a walk-in, so it has plenty of space. You’ll have your own private bathroom. Both the kids are down the hall, and my office is in the opposite direction.”

“You mentioned that I’ll be taking the kids to and from school and going to the market and stuff. Will I be reimbursed for the money I spend doing those things?”

“I think you’ll find more than enough money to cover it in your weekly paycheck,” I reply. “Also, the weekends will be a bit different. The kids don’t have school so it would be great if you could get them out of the house for a few hours, let them play, get some sun, and burn off some of that energy. You guys can play in the backyard, the park, whatever. It’s up to you, but I don’t like them cooped up in the house all weekend long. Not to mention, I enjoy the quiet. and I’m able to get more work done.”

“So, not only is this a twenty-four hour job, it’s seven days a week too?” She arches an eyebrow.

I nod. “Unfortunately, the kids require constant attention, which is why I cannot give them what they need while still running my business.”

“They don’t go see their mother on the weekends or something?”

“No, the children don’t ever see their mother and it would be best not to mention it. Especially to Xander. Maddy was too young to remember her, but Xander does, and it’s a sore subject, as you can probably guess.”

She nods and bites down on her lower lip. “Okay, I didn’t realize I would never get a day off. This is a little more than I thought.” She sits on the edge of the bed.

“I completely understand, but that is also why the salary is so high. If you make plans on the weekend, I just ask that you let me know ahead of time so I can work around it. This isn’t just a job, Sasha. If you accept this position, you will be joining this family in the eyes of the kids, so it’s important that whatever you choose, you’re able to stick with it. I don’t want my children to feel like they’ve been thrown in a washer that’s set to spin.”

“I completely understand,” she says, standing up and smoothing down her dress.

My eyes catch the action, and it only draws my eyes down to her legs, feet, and white painted toenails.

I pull my eyes away and clear my throat. “I’ll show you out, and after I call some of your references, I will give you a call.”

She follows me back down the steps and to the front door. I open it for her and hold out my hand. “It was nice meeting you.”

She smiles as she slides her soft hand into mine. “You, too.” She steps out, and I watch for a moment as she walks down the sidewalk to her car, her dress swinging with each step.

I close the door and shake the dirty thoughts from my head. Maybe this nanny thing isn’t a good idea. I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to find your kids’ nanny attractive, but damn… she’s sexy and already I’m thinking about what it would feel like to have her long legs wrapped around my hips.

Chapter Five

SASHA

Liam didn’t leave me with a very good impression on whether I got the job or not, but I hope to hear him from after he contacts my references. It really is a pretty good gig. Not only will I be making more money than I ever have before, but I’ll also have free room and board. I won’t have to worry about rent or utilities. I’ll be able to save most of my pay. When the time comes for me to move on, I’ll probably have enough saved to buy my own place and live comfortably for a while.

Kinsley was right about the kids. They are super cute, and they seemed to like me well enough. Liam was harder to read. I’m still not sure if he liked me or hated me. Before I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to do this job, but now I’m confident that I can do this job and worried that it won’t be offered to me.

As I’m leaving the house, I decide to stop by the coffee shop. When I walk in, Kinsley is sitting at my usual table with her order book. “Hey,” she says when I walk in.

“Hey,” I reply.

“How’d the interview go?”

I shrug as I sit across from her. “I’m not sure. The kids seemed to like me, but I’m not so sure Liam did. He asked some weird questions.”

“Like what?”

“Well, I kind of noticed that he was checking me out. Looking back on it now, I’m sure he just wanted to get a good look at me since I’m going to be living with his kids, but then he asked if I had a boyfriend. Of course, he played it off like he just wanted to know who his kids were going to be around, but it felt like he was asking for an entirely different reason.”

She giggles. “Good. He’s hot. You’d be stupid not to take him up on his offer.”

I tilt my head. “Be serious.”
