“Oh, it’s Katherine Scott Mills,” she tells me.
I feel my face pinch together. “I don’t even know who that is. Why was it such a big secret?”
She smiles and takes my hand, “You’ll see,” she says, pulling me through the door.
I can’t do anything but laugh and shake my head. Our lives up to this point have been fun and planned out by fate. I don’t know why I expected that to change now that we’re getting married.
STELLA
Ilead Pax out to the main area and we’re standing in front of the author table when the Katherine walks in and moves behind the table. The crowd cheers her on and she smiles and waves. Then she looks at the two of us standing in front of the table.
“I take it that you two are Stella and Paxton?”
I nod. “That’s right.”
She can barely control her smile as she picks up and book and starts to write something on the inner cover. “Paxton, as a thank you for all that you do, keeping the small business going and promoting the written word, and for having me here of course, I’d like to give the first signed book to you.”
“Oh,” he says, standing up straight and feeling like he’s special.
She finishes writing and she closes it, hanging it over.
He takes it and looks at the cover. I watch his eyes as he reads the title with confusion. “One, two, a baby for you?” he reads out loud.
I nod. “See what she wrote inside,” I urge.
He opens the cover and his eyes find the words. “Congratulations on becoming a daddy?”
I laugh. “The book is for expectant mothers to read to their child in the womb. We’re having a baby,” I tell him with a big smile.
His brows lift and his eyes narrow on the book. “We’re having a baby?”
I nod. “We’re having a baby,” I confirm.
His smile starts to take over his face. “Really? I’m going to be a dad?”
I laugh and nod.
“Whooo,” he cheers, causing the crowd to break out in loud applause around us. He picks me up and spins me around.
“I love you,” he whispers in my ear.
“I love you too,” I reply, knowing that we finally have it all and not regretting a moment of how we got here.
THE END.
