“We can learn about wine-making, and to be honest with you, we plan to leave everything almost exactly as is. The couple selling the place offered to stay on as managers for a year after the purchase, and they told Alex they’d be willing to act as consultants after that. Plus, we plan to keep all the staff. I’ve been really impressed with the employees.”
Layla nodded. “Me too. Sounds like you have everything figured out. I say go for it.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. Tamika and her fiancé are looking for a venue for their wedding, and this would be really nice, and it’s not far from Atlanta. Plus, me and my girls can come here as a getaway on the weekends.”
“So it’s all about you and your girls?” Rashad asked, sauntering over to where she stood.
Layla laughed, wrapping her arms around his torso. “A teeny tiny bit about me and my girlfriends, but also about you. I’m excited for you. Go for it.”
“Thanks, sweetness.”
“I’m glad we came here. It was a nice getaway, and I… I feel like we’re closer.” She sounded hesitant, eyes searching his.
“We are,” Rashad confirmed, kissing her soft lips.
Then he took her hand and led the way to dinner.

On the driveback to Atlanta, they were both quiet. Brunch had been another outstanding meal with delicious offerings, and Layla already missed the winery and the escape it provided.
When Rashad pulled up outside her loft, she sighed. “Back to reality,” she moaned.
Rashad turned off the engine and turned to her. “Stay the week with me.”
Layla stared at him.
He took her hand. “Pack a suitcase and come stay at my place for the rest of the week… or longer, if you want.”
“What prompted that offer?”
“Been thinking a lot, about you and me and how I screwed up before. I love spending time with you, Layla. This weekend was the best I’ve had in a long time, and I’m not ready to be apart from you. Say yes.”
Emotion clogged her throat. Same as he did, she’d enjoyed the couple of days they spent together. Not only the scenery but the company. Horseback riding, teasing each other out on the balcony, and enjoying delicious food. They were of the same mind in so many ways, and she definitely wanted to spend more time with him and get to know him even better. Without a doubt, she was confident Rashad was her future.
Layla leaned over and kissed him. “Yes.”
