“No, I mean…I’m a virgin.”
Lyric paused for a moment, then a wolfish grin spread across his face. “You don’t understand how much of a turn on that is.”
“It is?”
“Oh yes, it is baby.” Lyric gripped the back of my head and swept me into a mind-blowing kiss. “When you’re ready for me, and only when you’re good and ready, no matter how long it takes, you let me know.”
“Okay,” I whispered against his lips. “Now feed me. Please.”
Lyric laughed. He wrapped an arm around me and drove off, all my worries at ease from my sexy mountain man.
CHAPTER FIVE
Lyric
As soon aswe walked into the cabin, I could already tell Gran was here and waiting in the kitchen, the sound of dishes clattering a dead giveaway. This woman needed to stop cleaning up after me already.
But before we could begin introductions, my two animals had to make themselves known. “Lemon, Riffy, be nice to Phoenix, okay?” I said to both my dog and cat as Phoenix looked on lovingly.
“Is this the beautiful lady my grandson won’t stop going on and on about?” Gran asked as soon as I introduced her to Phoenix.
“Yes, Gran, this is her. Phoenix, meet Gran, Gran meet Phoenix.” I wrapped my arm around Phoenix’s waist and pulled her close to my side.
“Oh, you sweet, sweet, girl. No wonder my grandson is so smitten with you. You’re gorgeous.” Gran gushed while taking Phoenix’s hands in hers and kissing them both. “Thank you forlighting up my grandson’s face and filling his heart with love. Oh, how I just love seeing him so happy!”
Once Gran got started, it was hard to get her to stop. But food was always a good distraction. “Phoenix is going to join us for pizza night. Where are we ordering from tonight?”
“Let Phoenix decide she is the guest after all! I ordered a chocolate cake from Ruby’s bakery. Her sweet husband delivered it not too long ago.” Gran said as we settled around the kitchen table.
“Ruby’s bakery? I love her apple cinnamon muffins!” Phoenix said. “My parents and I always went there every Sunday for fresh muffins.”
“Are you from Appleridge, dear?”
“Yes. I started working here in Apple Falls recently. At Amara’s flower shop.”
“Oh, the flower shop! I just love that little place. It always smells so wonderful in there. So, you’re a florist?”
“Yes. I specialize more in gardens than I do floral arrangements but ask me anything about plants and I’m your gal.” Phoenix spoke animatedly, and my heart warmed at how much she’s opened herself to me. And now to one of the most important people in my life, my Gran.
“I’d love to pick your brain! I can never seem to get my pansies to grow well.”
As the two of them ventured into conversation about sun, shade, and water levels, I ordered a couple of pizzas from our favorite place in town and cracked open a bottle of wine. I think tonight deserved a bit of celebrating.
Not only was our project done and the customers extremely pleased with our hard work, but I also planned on asking Phoenix to be mine. In my heart, she already was, but it was time to make the damn thing official.
Phoenix stole my heart the moment I met her in Amara’s flower shop, and I didn’t want to hold back my feelings any longer.
Later, after we stuffed ourselves full of pizza and cake, wine, and more wine, we cuddled on the couch, a movie playing softly in the background. One I think neither of us was paying much attention to.
I gave her a tour of my cabin earlier, and also one of Gran’s, that I custom built for her on the land I purchased years ago. I also built my cabin from scratch after Gran’s was finished and lived in a trailer on the property while working.
“Phoenix, can I ask you something?”
“Mmm,” she mumbled, her voice sleepy.
“Will you be my girl?”
She sat up straight and looked at me. “No one’s ever asked me that before.”
