A Military Novella
I take honor and duty seriously in my life. I served to protect my country, home, and the people I love, but my government failed to protect me. Now, coming home after an injury that almost took my life, they call me a hero. It makes it hard to look people in the eye when all I feel is so numb and hollow.
I go in search of my mentor only to find him retiring.
After twenty-five years of service and one nasty divorce, I see the same look in his eyes. He’s just as lost. When I suggested getting drinks for his birthday, I was hoping to get some words of wisdom. Maybe even find my way back from the dark.
