The delivery person was bent over, leaving her bags. When he’d gotten back in the elevator, Ava opened the door. Lucas stepped beside her and picked up the dinner. He took it over to the kitchen and unpacked it while Ava pulled a couple of plates from the cabinet. As they moved side by side, she couldn’t help but think that this was what her apartment had been missing.

Chapter Thirty

“Your park view is spectacular,” Lucas said, his back to her and his arms stretched out on the wide living-room windowsill the next morning.

The sun was just coming up, and the city hadn’t bloomed into its hectic frenzy yet. It was the calm before the storm, when Ava enjoyed going for a jog and then stopping at her favorite coffee shop on weekends.

“The view of nature is what sold me on the apartment, actually.” She came up behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist. “Maybe I knew that a small piece of me didn’t belong in the cement jungle.”

He turned around to face her.

“I do still love the pace of it, just balanced with a slower way of life.”

“Nashville’s a growing city. You could love it.”

“I think so.”

Just then, her phone on the coffee table alerted her to a text. She went over to check it.

“It’s Mom. She wants me to call her. This is the second time she’s asked. She’d said to call once I was settled, and nowshe’s texting me at the crack of dawn. Maybe I should just make sure everything’s okay.”

“Of course. Why don’t I run out and get us some breakfast?”

“That sounds perfect. Here, let me text you the code to get back in.” Ava opened a text to Lucas and typed.

“Got it. Any requests?”

She pursed her lips. “Coffee—large, oat-milk, and honey. Other than that, surprise me.”

“Done.”

Lucas walked over to her and kissed her lips. “Be right back.”

After he left, Ava called her mom. “I’m finally settled,” she said once Martha answered. Then, she told her about Lucas showing up.

“He adores you,” her mother said. “He always has.”

Happiness filled every ounce of Ava’s body. “I adore him too.” She flopped down on the sofa in a daze of bliss. “Anything new with you?”

“Well, yes.”

Ava sat up straighter. “What is it?”

“Remember that website where I posted my bags?”

“Yeah.”

“I woke up this morning to a thousand orders.”

Ava stood back up. “What? How?”

“The woman from the craft show put a video of her tote on social media since it was available in her shop, telling everyone the line was by an up-and-coming designer, and the post went viral, whatever that means. She told me I’d better check any websites that I advertise on because they might have more orders.”

Her mom didn’t know what to do with so much growth, but Ava did.

“How do you feel about all those orders?”

“I’d love to fill them. I just don’t know how it’s possible. What do I do?”
