I laughed, and the sound somehow made my muscles relax. I winked. “That’s ’cause you love the sea life. Let’s get to the room.”

He directed me back to his room, and I saw another wave.

I tensed again but stepped toward the window and grabbed the blind. Once I stopped seeing the ocean, my gaze returned to the bed.

Gerard pulled out his computer, so I tossed my shoes off and curled up beside him.

“So, how do we write this?” I asked.

He handed me the computer and opened his tablet. Once we had both, he said, “Mostly, it’s a form. They aren’t looking for blog readability, but since we’re in the outer band, we’re offering input into the maneuverability and surface.”

The words sent a shiver down my spine, though it could have been the ship’s motion. “That sounds bad.”

He playfully brushed against my shoulder .“Don’t be so negative.” We switched devices, then he said, “It’s going to be fine. Look at the numbers, then cross-check that I’m inputting everything as it is.”

His calmness was like a rock I clung to. I nodded. “You forgot the C in the third line.”

He fixed it then continued typing. I compared the numbers and letters. And we worked fast. We read it over once, then we waited for the computer to alert us that it had been sent.

The second we heard the swishing noise, he closed his laptop. “And done.”

I shook my head but handed him the tablet, which he stored with the laptop on the side of the bed.

When he finished, I cupped his face. “You’re cute when you’re so calm about everything.”

The rocking seemed to be calming down.

“Everything usually works out for me,” he said.

Maybe that was it. He was the luckiest man alive. It might explain some of his wonderful life. “Must be nice.”

He cocked his head. “Was that sarcasm?”

No. Well, okay, it was, but not on purpose. It had just come out. Instead of explaining, I climbed on his lap and leaned forward to kiss him. “I want you again.”

He helped me out of my pants, and I did the same for him. Friends with benefits was amazing, and I needed to keep my head on straight. If I could remember to keep my emotions out of it, then we really were destined for pleasure.
