“No.” He took a step. “Romance is for those who want to delude themselves, though to contradict my father, I do notice patients with families get better faster. So there is something to having people to come home to, like you and Bradley.”

We didn’t say anything as we finished going up the stairs. He took my hand and led me to his room, but I shook my head and said, “You can come help me read Bradley his bedtime story.”

He kissed my cheek and said, “I have a business call to make, but I’ll see you in a few minutes.”

For a moment, I was lost. I swallowed but didn’t argue.

I grabbed a change of clothes in my room and stared at myself in the mirror. The woman staring back was almost a stranger. My lips were fuller from being kissed. My body ached for a man, and I realized quickly that I was in love.

Damn.I wouldn’t deny it. I had no idea how to prove to him that I didn’t care about his money. The hairs on my arms stood on end as I realized I wasn’t ready to settle into comfort with him either.

So I went into his son’s room, grabbed a book about bears, and sat down beside Bradley.

Out of all my students, he’d always been my favorite. Other students had needed me, but until Bradley, I’d never let myself admit to any affection.

In two more days, Johnny and Bradley would become major parts of my life.

Yet I wished the woman staring at me in the mirror could fall in love the old-fashioned way. That wish didn’t help me, though, so I tried to let it go.

My stomach was full of butterflies as I read the cute story.

Once I finished, I kissed his forehead and said, “Bradley, tomorrow I’ll need your help in finding a dress to marry your father in.”

He curled into his bed and said, “I’m happy you’re here forever, Olivia.”

“Good night,” I said and stood from the bed.

I closed the door behind me then hugged my waist as I returned to the hall. As I neared the master suite, the door opened. Johnny was standing in green boxer shorts.

My heart fluttered. “Johnny?”

“Get in here,” he said and opened the door wider.

Right.I wished he cared about me, but for the moment and hopefully forever, maybe I could be okay with whatever was between us. I passed him and said, “We can do whatever you want.”

He closed the door, and I ignored the pings in my heart.

Chapter Thirteen

Johnny

I woke up,and Little Johnny was awake and aware that the sexy body beside me was still warm. I could have sworn he’d grown even bigger since we’d had sex. He was hard and ready for Olivia.

If it was only about sex, life with her would be easier. But I kept wondering if she’d crossed too many of my defenses.

If my heart was hers, she would have me. And I couldn’t let that happen, at least not until I fully trusted that she was on the level.

Her eyes fluttered open. I wondered what I could do to prove that she wasn’t just in it for my money. A plan formed. I’d asked Don, my maintenance guy, to fix her car the day before and bought her a new one to see which one she’d prefer. If she didn’t care about cash, then she was there for me. My heart hoped she was.

In one more night, she would be my wife. I reached over her naked body to the small nightstand beside her, grabbed her phone, then put it in her hand.

I grabbed mine beside me, and instead of saying good morning, I checked both her cars were good.

Don confirmed he’d fixed the old one, and the new one was in the lot.

Then my gaze narrowed. I wanted another round with her sexy body. However, I ignored my urges and said, “Call your sisters.”

She glanced at the time, sat up, and adjusted the sheets so I couldn’t see her naked bits. “It’s early.”
