It was like his words were echoing around in my head:“You have exactly five minutes or this will be even worse for you.”
I had half a mind not to go, that bastard. I could just sit here and drown my sorrows in a cheese plate.
But I owed him a slap across the face. Or ten. I was going to kill him with his stupid necktie that smelled like Kristen insteadof me. Before anyone could even ask me where I was going, I stormed off after him.
Seduction - Chapter 27
Friday
I walked through the opening of the wall. Someone yelled my name from behind me, but I ignored them. I could only think about one thing…slapping my cocky husband.
There was a red curtain behind the wall, blocking off my path. I looked around, and then the ground started to shake. I looked behind me to see the wall behind me closing shut.Shit.
I had not thought this through. I had no idea where we were and no idea what was behind that curtain. And now I couldn’t turn back to my friends.
But I could hear voices. I inched toward the curtain and the voices grew louder. I found a parting and pushed through it. And I stumbled into another curtained-off area. Five men in nothing but banana hammocks and big monkey masks all slowly turned toward me.
And for the second time tonight, I thought I was going to be murdered. I screamed at the top of my lungs and pushed through a different opening in the curtain.
Behind this one was a group of guys changing into stripper costumes. Probably about to do what my husband and friends had just done.
And even though a few of them were half naked, they were much less scary than the monkey men behind curtain #2.
“Where are we?” I asked and stepped toward the closest one who was already in full costume. He was dressed like a police officer.
He gave me a weird look. “The Society.”
“The what?”
“It’s invite only. Wait, did you not fill out all the forms?”
“Um…”
He took another step toward me. “Miss, how did you get in here?” He put his hands on his belt like he was about to pull out a taser or something.
Oh my God.I looked over at the other guys changing and they were all pulling on police uniforms. And now I wasn’t sure they were about to be a stripper police office. Because the one in front of me was acting like a real police officer. I was about to be swarmed by cops.
“The Society, right. Of course I filled out all the forms.”What the fuck?!“Gotta go!” I sprinted through another gap in the curtains and almost ran straight into Mason.
“Thank God,” I said and breathed a sigh of relief.
Mason was fully clothed again in a freshly pressed suit. He stared down at me, a cloud of smoke around his head. He pulled the cigar out of the corner of his mouth.
“What are you doing back here?” he asked.
Tanner walked in through another curtain and waved his hand through the air. “So what do you think? It’s a win, right?” He paused when he saw me and quickly lowered his arm. “Hey, Penny.” He looked back and forth between Mason and me. “I didn’t know you were a member.”
“She’s not,” Mason said firmly. “It was a bachelorette party thing.”
“Well, did you enjoy it?” Tanner asked.
Yeah, until my husband molested everyone but me.“Sure. I just…” I pointed over my shoulder. “I was trying to find James and I got lost in all those curtains. What is the Society?”
Mason cleared his throat. “The what?”
“The Society.”
“The Society is a…” Tanner started but Mason elbowed him right in the ribs. He gave him a death stare. Tanner cleared his throat. “Never heard of it.”
