However, I didn’t even get across his damn office space before he spoke. “I’ll need you to stay and take notes.”
I paused. “Jax—I mean, sir—it’s been a long day. And I know you’re paying me time and a half, but you’ve literally waited until—”
“Either stay and take the notes, or I’ll find someone else who wants the money.”
I rolled my eyes before I turned around. “Where would you like me.”
He pointed to the chair in front of his desk. “Where you were is just fine, thanks.”
I plastered on a smile. “Wonderful. I’ll sit right back down, then.”
I did everything I could to keep my eyes open while Jax video-conferenced with four other individuals from Shanghai, of all places. They talked back and forth via a translator while I typed notes up as quickly as I could. I highlighted things I thought would be important and used short-hand to get everything down before going back during the breaks in the meeting and fleshing everything out.
But, the meeting didn’t quite go as expected. “Goddammit,” Jax murmured as the call finally finished.
I puffed my cheeks out with a sigh. “That’s gonna hurt.”
He raked his hands through his hair. “Goddammit!” He turned around and kicked his desk, which caused me to jump.
“Seriously? Can we not do that?”
He growled. “It’s just so… fucked.”
I stood and walked over to his side, perching against his desk. “But look at it this way: they haven’t turned down your services.”
“No, they’re just going to waste my time, flying me out there to look at things so I can give my opinion, and I don’t give opinions. If they want the information I have in my brain—if they want my connections—then they’re going to pay me for it.”
I placed my hand on his back and started to rub. “Just take some deep breaths for me. In and out, like this.”
But, the second I touched him, he shot up like a bat out of hell and charged me. He placed his hands on my shoulders as his eyes grew wide with fervor, and fear clenched my gut as he backed me against a wall.
“Jax,” I said breathlessly.
He leaned in closer. “Don’t you ever touch my back again. Do you hear me?”
I nodded quickly. “Yes, sir. I hear you loud and clear.”
He leaned in so close that I felt his breath pulsing against my lips. “Ever.”
I swallowed hard. “Never again. Got it.”
“Good.”
Except, he didn’t back away when he was done. He didn’t go back over to his desk or remove his hands from my shoulders, or generally step away so I could go. Instead, his eyes fell to my lips. Instead, he took a step closer to me. And when I felt his raging erection pressing against my hip bone, my eyes fluttered close.
“Jackson,” I whispered.
His nose nuzzled against my own, his voice heavy with need. “Lilyanna.”
And I figured if I couldn’t beat him at work—if I couldn’t prevent him from backing me into corners and lording over me like we were still kids—then I could beat him in other ways.
So, without another word spoken between the two of us, I pressed my chest against his own and covered his mouth with mine.
Plunging myself into a world of darkness as he pinned my wrists above my head.
