“No ma’am. We know you didn’t. It’s a gift. Ordered before Christmas and we just got the custom color to the client’s satisfaction. Do you like the color shift?”

I was rendered speechless so all I could do was nod. The sales rep was a young Black man and he had a smile on his face like he was used to making people’s day.

“I still need you to sign, miss.”

I hurriedly scribbled my name and watched the car roll off the back of the truck. I held my breath hoping they didn’t do something tragic like drop it before I could even look inside. I didn’t take my eyes off of it until it was firmly on the ground.

The car was beautiful. It paid a nod to the slabs of my hometown with a candy paint shift that went from black to money green. It was playful and sophisticated at the same time. The rims were sleek but still had an element of flashiness that would make anybody, including my brother, proud.

“It’s beautiful.”

“It’s very well designed, if I say so myself. Here are your keys and your ownership paperwork. I was instructed to tell you that the car is yours no matter what and the insurance has already been paid for the first year.” He sounded proud as hell and I knew from the details who was responsible for this purchase.

“Gave you a whole script, huh?”

“Miss, this is tame in comparison to some of the shit I have to say. When it’s a man dropping something off to his side chick, I gotta give a wholeif we end this shit the car comes back to him and you still can’t say his namespeech. It’s’ wild.” He was shaking his head and I could tell he was grateful that I wasn’t the worst part of his day.

“Glad I could be normal for you.”

“This how thing has been a pleasure. I hope you enjoy the car and if you or anyone els you know needs something, tell them to reach out to Marcus.”

He extended his phone airdropping his digital card into my contact list. A little much but I understood the need to move away from paper cards. He had his shit together and I could see that he was damn good at his job.

“Wait, do y’all take tips—”

He laughed and shook his head and I had to wonder what was so funny. “I’m sorry but the buyer knows you well. I have explicit instructions to also tell you that it’s a gift, which means you don’t pay for any aspect of it. You’re just supposed to sit pretty.”

I felt my face heat and I folded my lips to stop myself from grinning like a fool. City knew exactly what to say to get my ass weak in the knees and wet in the panties.

He better bring his ass back into town quick as fuck. Dropping off cars since he can’t drop off dick was some next level kinda macking, but I was spoiled enough to want both.

“Thank you for delivering the messages, Marcus. I have a lot of friends and clients that would be more than happy to find someone who can assist them with offloading some of their vast disposable income. I will definitely sing your praises. Of course, your work will speak for itself.”

It was his turn to grin and he nodded his head appreciatively. “Thank you, Miss Porsha. I’ll get out of your way now. Enjoy the car. It was a pleasure to work on.”

He extended his hand and I shook it before walking over to the car and unlocking the door.

“Porsha this is nice as hell. He did his big one with this.”

“Candace!”

She rolled her eyes before turning back to admire the interior of the car. “I’m not about to deny that man doing something nice the way you do. I wouldn’t even be handing out cars to yourhide my nigga from the worldass. Swear you think you Latto only you not running around hollerin’ my man my man. You just showing up looking even more like money than usual.”

City had made zero effort to keep shit between us when it came to anyone else outside of Lyric and my girls. He would pop up at the salon with food for the staff like it was nothing. They’d had a listening party for an artist Candace liked. He gifted her tickets for her and her sister. I knew he wasn’t trying to pressure me into going public; it was just how he was. He was a good ass man and I knew what I had. It was just killing me to say something to Lyric.

“I know. And speaking of I need to call him. I know he’s gotten the notification that the car was delivered. I don’t want him to think I’m ungrateful.”

Candace nodded like she knew I needed privacy to make the call without me explicitly saying something. “I’ll let you handle that and then have Lisa prep for your next client.”

“Thank you.” I had a consultation for a medical unit coming in later on this afternoon so I wanted to insure this call didn’t take too long. I waited anxiously as it rang and admired the entirety of the car. The cream leather was a rich contrast to the paint outside.

“What’s good, P?” His tone was sly and I knew he was being cautious because he didn’t know how I was feeling.

“That’s the greeting I get?”

The grin I loved split his face making me wish I could sit on it. “I see you sitting in some new shit. You like it?”

I don’t know why his rough ass voice was so sexy to me, but it was. It was a cross between sounding hoarse and just being rough as hell. But there was smoothness to it. An air of grown ass man that was strictly City. And whenever he called me Pretty? Shiiit there was no stopping my panties from falling to the floor.
