Then Malia glanced up at him through her lashes, and did something with her tongue that made him see stars.
And that was all it took.
His release tore through him in a volcanic eruption of pleasure that started at the base of his spine. The force of it made him fling out his hands and brace himself against the wall to keep from toppling over onto her.
All rational thoughts disappeared, torn and swept away like trees uprooted by a raging river. White-hot bliss poured through him in a torrent, only gradually slowing and cooling to gold.
When he was done, Malia sat back on her heels, swallowed, and wiped her reddened, puffy lips with her hand before rising languidly to her feet.
He helped her up and pulled her against him.
She smiled shyly at him. “So…it was good for you, too?”
He chuckled weakly. “Do you even have to ask?”
Floating on a soft, warm cloud of post-orgasmic bliss, he enfolded her in his arms, inhaling her sweet scent and burying his face in her soft hair.
She was soft and curvy in all the right places, and she fit against him perfectly. Her head tucked neatly under his chin, and her warm breath tickled his throat.
They stood locked together in a tight embrace for a long time.
This felt so very right. He never wanted to move from this spot…except to relocate to Malia’s bed for another round.
Wouldn’t it be great to fall asleep cuddled up with her, and wake up to that adults-only breakfast I’ve been fantasizing about?
Then his phone chimed a reminder. He glanced up at Malia’s kitchen clock, and the world came rushing back.
He stiffened. “Shit! I completely lost track of the time!”
“Is there somewhere you need to be?” Malia asked as he stepped back and hastily tucked himself back inside his jeans before zipping up.
He heard the sudden tinge of concern and perhaps even hurt in her voice.
“I have to call my girls and read them a story,” he explained. “This is their bedtime.”
Her wariness vanished in one of her brilliant smiles.God, she’s so beautiful!
“That’s so sweet!” she exclaimed.
He shrugged. If he had to be away from home for days at a time, a nightly phone or video call was the least he could do. He added, wryly, “And then I have to set my alarm for oh-dark-thirty.”
“You’re going hunting with Travis Bickham and his friend again?” She didn’t look happy.
After I warned you? Why?Her unspoken question hung in the air between them. And he couldn’t answer it honestly without destroying his cover.
He might have lost his mind to sheer lust just now, but he absolutely couldn’t afford to mess up his investigation any worse than he already had.
“Yeah. They promised to show me all the best places to hunt around here.”
“Will you…” She bit her lip. “Will you let me know if you see anything suspicious?” she finished in a rush. “Or if they mention Rob’s shooting at all?”
“I’ll keep an eye and an ear out tomorrow,” he said, careful not to promise more than that.
Shifters could sense a lie. The trick was to tell the truth and let the other person fill in the blanks.
She sighed. “I need to find out who did that to him, but I’m kind of at a dead end right now.”
“I’m sorry to hear that.” Lucas leaned forward and gave her one last lingering kiss. It was difficult to tear himself away from her delicious mouth. “Thanks for a wonderful evening, Malia.”
