She kissed him again. “Yes. I did a lot of thinking while I was waiting for you to come home. I still believe you’re a good man. And a worthy mate. I want to try to work things out.”

“Good,” he breathed. “Because I’ve already requested a transfer to the local Fish and Game office. I’m looking forward to working with Gage and Evan.”

She gave him a real smile, filled with warmth and affection. “Did you know that Uncle Evan dropped by this morning to plead your case?”

“No shit?”

Malia laughed. “He confessed that Gage sent him.”

Lucas retrieved the gifts he’d bought and presented her with the roses. “I picked up cappuccinos, breakfast sandwiches, and fruit salad in town. Would you like to share a meal with me?”

Malia inhaled the faint, delicate fragrance of the roses, then reached for his hand. “I’d like that very much.”

After breakfast, she led him to the bedroom.

Scarcely believing his luck, Lucas slowly undressed his mate. He couldn’t believe how close he’d come to losing her.

Now, he set about reclaiming her.

He made slow love to every inch of her gorgeous body, lingering over the places that made her delicious scent spike with arousal. He buried his face between her legs, covering himself in her perfume, as he made her come again and again.

He needed this. Needed to see her come apart for him. Needed to know that she still wanted him as badly as he wanted her.

When she was panting and limp with pleasure beneath him, he finally allowed himself to take her the way his cat demanded, hard and deep and fast.

She climaxed for him again as his own release began. Then they held each other through the afterglow, lazily caressing and kissing.

Lucas floated in golden bliss. Malia had forgiven him. Even better, she now knew who he really was, and accepted him. All of him.

I am so lucky, he thought, kissing his mate’s smooth, warm shoulder.

She turned languidly to face him, draping one lovely, rounded thigh over his legs. “We really should tell the pack council the truth about who you are. Will that be okay?”

He nodded. “If I’m going be living here, then I won’t be working any undercover operations in this area any longer. Too great a chance that someone will recognize me and accidentally blow my cover.”

“All right. I’ll text Great Uncle Bill and ask for an emergency meeting.” She stroked his chest.“And then I’d like to take a shower together.”

The thought of her wet, slippery curves and all that hot water made his cock instantly spring back to life. “I like the way you think, my love.”

“It was my idea to contact Lucas and ask him to work undercover,” Tringstad told the six members of the Bearpaw Ridge Pack council two hours later. “I wanted to take down the poachers who shot Rob, and for that, I needed Fish and Game’s top Regional Investigator.”

Lucas, Malia at his side, had just finished explaining who he really was.

To his surprise and pleasure, Tringstad had arrived to back up his account.

Great Uncle Bill rose from his seat, smiling. He extended his hand to Lucas. “Well, it sounds like we need to start fresh. Welcome to the Bearpaw Ridge Pack, Lucas Concolor, and congratulations on mating my great-niece Malia. I wish you both a long and happy life together.”

Grandpa Derek and Grandma Malia were the next to offer their congratulations.

Then Lucas faced Malia’s parents. Mary looked tired—and no wonder, since she’d been kicked out of bed on her day off when news of the arrests reached her. But her smile was warm and genuine, as was Tyler’s. “Once again, welcome to the family, Lucas. And may I say that I’m thrilled to hear that you’re a fellow law enforcement professional?”

She hugged him, then Tyler stepped forward and did the same.

“So, what’s next for you two lovebirds?” he asked.
