She realized that the horrible sound had come from his First Responder app. She’d heard it before, several times, because her Mom and Mitya were both fire department volunteers.

“Looks like a car went off the road just before the Bearpaw Springs turn-off,” Matt said, tersely. “It looks bad. I gotta go. I'm sorry.”

Sophie knew exactly which section of the highway he was talking about. It was a winding stretch through a canyon, with a steep plunge down to the rushing river a hundred feet below. If a car had gone off the road there, then it was probably going to be really bad.

“Be safe,” she told him, trying to smile at him despite the frustrated desire burning through her body like a stream of molten lava. “Text me later and let me know what happened?”

“Sure.” He was already turning to walk towards his pickup when he stopped. “Let’s do this again sometime soon.”

She nodded. “I’d like that.”

Filled with regret and aching, throbbing need, Sophie stood by her car and watched Matt peel out of the parking lot in a spray of gravel.

She drove home by herself, disappointment and confusion churning inside her.

How could two guys who were so different from each other, both turn her on so intensely just by kissing her?

Sophie sighed. In the space of a week, she’d gone from never-been-kissed to having incredible make-out sessions with her two best friends.

They both made her feel beautiful and hot in a way that she had only ever dreamed about until now…

But that meant that she had a big problem if she was crushing on both Chris and Matt.

She needed to figure out things fast, or there would be lots of trouble.

Chapter Thirteen

Matt drove away from Dancing Cow Burgers, frustrated as hell at the way his date had ended. He was so hard it hurt.

As he sped towards the scene of the accident, he couldn’t stop fantasizing about what it would be like having sex with Sophie.

Kissing her had been better than he’d fantasized during all the lonely months that she had been gone, and she had responded to him in a way that exceeded all those fantasies.

Before being so rudely interrupted, she had wanted him as badly as he had wanted her. He vividly imagined her straddling his lap right now and riding him until they both came.

Mixed in with his frustration was the tiniest bit of smugness because he was pretty sure that he’d gotten further with Sophie than Chris had.

She’s attracted to me, and we have real chemistry!

Matt wanted to shout “Hallelujah!” and hear the chorus of angels.

Best of all, it seemed like he still had a chance with her.

It was such a relief…and a dream come true. She had always been the only one for him, and he had waited such a long time for her.

Now that he’d had a taste of her, he wanted more. He wantedeverything.

He wanted her to be his first.

Chris or no Chris, I’m going to win her as my mate.

“It was an honor killing,” declared Alejandro Ornelas, leaning forward in his chair and pinning Sophie with an intense gaze. “Her own family killed her to preserve the purity of their bloodline.”
