“Well, Mr.Winters we’ll buy Pete a new collar,” Cassian said as he whipped a knife out of his pocket and separated the stitches then opened the collar.Inside, there was indeed a tracking device.“There was most definitely a tracker.I think this is why they allowed you to keep the dog.”He growled then set the tracker on the console and smashed it with his gun barrel. He threw the collar out the window and swept the pieces of the tracker into his hand to toss them out as well.

Conrad buried his face in the dog’s fur and shook his head.“Those bastards. They knew if I ever got free, I wouldn’t leave Pete behind.”

Cassian glanced at him and shook his head at Faith.

Palamedes texted the mansion, telling them what they were doing.

Lancelot didn’t drive the shortest route back; he took the long way home and kept his eyes on the road for anyone following them.

Finally, Palamedes got a text from Bane.Come on home, we will speak to Conrad and figure out what's going on.If he is as innocent as everyone thinks or if he’s just playing a game, we will find out.

Chapter Five

An hour later, theypulled up to the front gate and when it opened, Lancelot drove on the long driveway. When the vehicle stopped in front of the mansion they all got out.

Conrad with his dog mounted the front steps carefully. They had removed the blindfold and Conrad was looking around the large, lush property with great interest.

When he saw the men standing at the front door he paused to look at them. One of them he recognized as he tipped his head at Frank.“Been a long time, Frank.Never thought to see you here today.”Then he looked at the others.

Bane glanced between Conrad and his father.“You know him, Dad?”he asked.

Frank nodded.“Yeah, I’d known Conrad for a number of years, we were in college together.”

“Then why didn’t you say something before now?”Bane gritted through his teeth.

“Son, I just got home an hour ago as you know.I mean you were the one who insisted that I take some time off.”

“Yes, I was.But since I got you up to speed on this today, the last thing I expected was for you to know Conrad Winters of all people.”

“Because I never would have expected him to be here and I never would have expected him to do this thing.”Frank shook his head.“It doesn’t make any sense to me.This wasn’t something I ever thought Conrad could or would do.”

Conrad shook his head.“No it wasn't, was it?But it was something my spoiled brother would do and did do.”

“Your brother?”Bastian asked.“You mean Devon, right?”

Conrad turned to look at him as he answered, “I never knew Devon really.I mean my twin brother, Hudson. My very spoiled brother who never thought the laws of the land applied to him.He always was a selfish bastard and this just proves it.”
