But as he blew up the photo, an image of the man in the background became clearer.
His breath caught.
He wasn’t imagining things.
The man in the background may have been wearing an oversized coat and a knit hat with winter boots.
But Logan could easily envision this guy wearing a leather jacket, jeans, and black boots.
It was Knox, a member of the Iron Brotherhood.
And this photo, which was dated four weeks ago, showed this man in Alaska.
Near Morgan. Maybe even working with her.
Blending in with the people here, and all evidence of his past erased—at least in this picture.
Nausea rolled inside him at the thought.
It appeared he had gone from no suspects to two.
Ashcroft and Knox.
But Knox was at the top of his list.
CHAPTER
TWENTY-FOUR
Logan continuedto scroll through photos.
Sure enough, Knox was in other photos as well.
He couldn’t be certain, but it almost appeared as if the man was a part of the photo shoot. That maybe he was one of the guides even.
But what sense did that make? The man was supposed to be in jail. For twenty years.
And if he had been released early for some reason, certainly Logan would have heard about it.
He called one of his colleagues back in Denver, Vincent Brody. The man answered on the first ring.
Logan decided to skip the small talk. “What do you know about Knox?”
“Knox? Haven’t heard his name in a while. I haven’t heard anything about him for a while.”
“I need you to check on his status. Make sure he’s still locked up.”
“Sure, man. I’d be happy to do that for you. Can I ask what this is about?”
“Bobby’s sister is missing. And I was going through some of the old photos on her phone and I saw a man there. It’s Knox.”
“What? That doesn’t even make any sense. I mean even if Knox was somehow released from prison, why would he go to Alaska and try to pretend like he belonged there?”
“Maybe it was part of his ultimate plan to get back at Morgan for reporting the Iron Brotherhood.”
Vincent was silent a minute. “I don’t know, man. But I will look into it. I’ll get back with you. It may not be tonight, however. I don’t mind waking people up, but I can’t promise you that people are going to answer.”
“Just let me know as soon as you know something. Please.”
