“She said they’re okay. Wendy went home, and they’re all talking now,” Elisa shared, referring to Adele’s text message. “I should’ve stayed.”

“Babe, it sounds to me like they all had some talking to do, and AJ asked you to go so that they could do it.”

Myra was lying in her own bed, with Elisa in her arms and Buster at Elisa’s other side, pressed into her like he knew that she needed him, too. Myra had been working on Elisa’s kitchen when she heard the car in the driveway. She hadn’t expected Elisa back so soon, so she walked outside and found her unloading her bag. After Elisa had told her a little about what happened, Myra had offered to either be there or leave her alone. She’d been painting in the kitchen, though, and the whole house smelled like it, so Elisa had asked if they could go to her place for a while until Adele texted her. They’d gone straight to Myra’s bedroom, and now, Myra was holding her while Elisa was replying to the text Adele had sent her to keep her posted and let her know if she needed to get back in the car and come get them. Myra kissed the top of her head and gave her a squeeze.

“Are you hungry? I can cook us something.”

“No, I’m okay. I don’t think I can eat right now anyway.” She looked down at Myra. “You should eat, though.”

“I’m okay. Just worried about you and the kids.”

“You’re worried about my kids?”

“Yes,” Myra replied with a smile. “I’ll worry about all of you from now on, even Buster. That’s kind of how this works.”

Elisa rested back against her just as Buster got up and jumped off the bed.

“He needs to go out,” Elisa said. “I’ll take him, but I’ll come right back, so don’t you dare move.”

“Just let him out in the backyard. I brought someof his toys over, and there’s shade on the back deck. He’ll like it out there.”

“Okay. I should’ve thought to bring his water bowl.”

“Just use one from the cabinet. I’ll buy one when I go shopping.”

“You’re going to buy a bowl for my dog?”

“Too much too soon?” Myra asked.

“No.” Elisa laughed. “It’s cute.”

“I just want you to feel like you can spend time here, and that includes Buster now. I can pick up food and stuff, too.”

“You’re amazing,” Elisa replied and left the room, with Buster following her close behind.

Myra stared up at the ceiling and waited for her to return. She hated that Archie Senior had shown up home unexpectedly, but maybe it was what their family had needed. The kids were finally standing up for their mother now, and Elisa could feel better about moving on with her life.

“He seems all settled out there,” Elisa said as she walked to the window and looked out it. “He’s playing with that rope toy. He’s just tossing it five feet away, running to it, shaking his head like crazy, and doing it again.” She chuckled. “It’s really cute, but how does he not get a headache?”

As Myra watched her beautiful girlfriend stand in the window, she wanted to approach her and see what she was talking about, but she’d been told to stay put. Elisa, for her part, turned around to her, reached for the hem of her own T-shirt, and pulled it up and off, which Myra hadn’t been expecting. Then, Elisa kicked off her jeans and removed the remainder of her clothing, leaving herself naked as she stood in Myra’s bedroom. When she climbed over to Myra, she undid Myra’s jeans, too, and pulled them down and off, staring at Myra’s center for a minute before she reached for the boy shorts she wore and tugged them down Myra’s legs.

“Off,” Elisa instructed then, pointing to Myra’s T-shirt.

Myra sat up a little and took off her shirt along with her bra. Then, she waited because she didn’t know what Elisa had in mind. Elisa cupped Myra’s sex and began massaging it howMyra had done for her the other day.

“No chance we can get interrupted here since the kids don’t have keys to this place, and they’re at least a two-hour drive away.”

“Babe, we can just hold each other. It’s been a long weekend,” Myra told her, trying not to get turned on in case Elisa changed her mind.

“I need you,” Elisa replied. “I need to feel your touch. I need to know that this is real.”

“What? Of course, it’s real.”

“I know,” Elisa said. “But I need you to show me, okay? I need to be distracted right now, but I also need to feel like you and I are going to be okay. We’re going to get through my kids acting out, my ex-husband still trying to insert himself into my life, and–”

“Okay,” Myra replied. “Okay. Come up here.”

“I like it down here, though,” Elisa said, continuing her massage. “I haven’t done this to you yet.”
