My grip on Shawn’s hand tightened. “Was that what this has all been about? You wanted to prove something because Art is an asshole? He doesn’t own any part of my life. He hasn’t since heannihilated my trust. It was never meant for him to have in the first place.”

The car ride only grew more uncomfortable the longer we drove and kept talking. This was why we should have kept avoiding it.

Shawn pulled his hand free of mine and wiped it down his face. “Shit. I’m sorry. Okay. It wasn’t just about proving something when it came to him. Sure, part of me hated hearing him say it. I wanted you. I didn’t want anyone else to...”

“Say that I was theirs,” I finished for him. He nodded, eyes still on the road.

I pulled my knees up to my chest and tucked my chin down. Once we got back, I’d have to look into getting warmer clothes because if this week had taught me anything, it was that I didn’t know how to take care of myself after all. I shivered even as the vents pumped heat into the car. My eyes trailed back to the side of the road, watching as trees slowly gave way to the city.

This drive had been awkward, but as uncomfortable as it had been, I hadn’t wanted it to end.

When we pulled up outside of Shawn’s building, I turned to him in confusion. “What are we doing here?”

His fingers drummed against the steering wheel as he looked at the building. He took a shaky breath before those hazel eyes met mine. Oxygen left the car, leaving me breathless at the emotion I found there. “Things that are mine. I keep them, Daniel. I can take you home, but I’m letting you know that I really don’t want to.”

So, like an idiot, I nodded. “Then I’ll stay.”

Chapter 34

Shawn

This was probably one of the stupidest things I’d ever done, but I couldn’t bring myself to turn the car back on and take Daniel to his own place. No. If he was mine, I was all in. And now it was time to see just how all in he was as well.

Daniel carried his bag in his left hand and the box with Nacho in it tucked under his right arm. At some point during the drive, the kitten had fallen asleep, saving us from having to listen to him anymore. It would be wise to go out and get him some supplies, but I could always order them and have them delivered later.

“This is it,” I said, waving my arm to show the entry to the apartment as Daniel stepped inside and the lights clicked on.

It always felt so empty here, but it suddenly felt so much more like home now that he was here with me.

As if on cue, Nacho let out a cry. Daniel set down the box, and I shut the front door right as he lifted the lid. A small orange ball of fur poked its head out and looked around, taking in his new surroundings. He tentatively hopped from the box and startedsniffing around. When Daniel stood, he jumped but settled when he saw it was only the two of us with him.

“Do you think he’s scared?”

I shrugged, coming up behind Daniel and wrapping my arms around his waist from behind. He leaned into me as I buried my nose in his neck and then placed a kiss against the skin. “He might be, but I’m more worried about you.”

Daniel hummed, hands holding onto my arms as we rocked from side to side. “I wouldn’t say I was scared. Unsure, maybe. But we’ll figure this out. That’s half the fun, isn’t it?”

I nipped at his neck, causing a shiver to race down his spine. “I can think of a lot more fun things.”

The way Daniel laughed made me feel so damn warm inside.

“What type of fun things were you thinking about?”

I let out a laugh, noting the small goosebumps that rose on Daniel’s neck as the air brushed past the damp skin.

“I don’t know. Things that require less clothing. No interruptions. Maybe the sight of you riding my dick.”

Another full-body shiver followed by a low moan. It was exciting to turn him on like that.

“And what if I like the idea of you riding me instead?”

My eyebrows rose. I wasn’t against it. And at this point, Daniel had fully been on the receiving end of things. If he wanted to experience being the giver, I wouldn’t deny him that. It wasn’t often that I allowed anyone enough trust to enter my body like that, but Daniel was different. I wanted him to be different.

“I think that can be arranged.”

Daniel spun in my embrace. He gasped when his hardened cock rubbed against my thigh. I loved that he wasn’t shy about this. Once he was out of his head, he took what he wanted and didn’t hesitate.

When his fingers dipped beneath the bottom hem of my shirt, I lifted my arms for him so he could pull it off. He held thematerial in his hands as his eyes trailed up and down my chest. “You know what’s not fair? You’re a cocky asshole, and it’s like you were made for it. How were you built so damn perfectly?”
