Mike snorted.“Why do you always hide behind her?Don’t you have some pride?I askedyoua question, not Angela.”

“And if you want to know, you should ask her.I can’t talk about pack business with anyone.”Especially not about this meeting.

Leonard grunted.“We’re not just anyone. We’re pack members, more so than you.We deserve to know what’s going on.”

“Until you’re in charge, you don’t deserve anything,” Angela’s voice suddenly said.

Angus had to hide his smile as the alpha stepped out of her house. She was carrying a backpack and had her phone in her hand. She scowled at Leonard and Mike.Angus could have kissed her, but he knew better. She’d probably punch his lights out if he tried.

“Alpha,” Mike said, lightly bowing his head.

Angela slammed her door shut and climbed down her porch steps.“What are the two of you doing here?”

“We wanted to see you off,” Leonard said.“Neither of us likes the fact that you’re going to Rosewood. Is it necessary?”

Angela’s eyes narrowed.“Are you challenging my decisions as alpha?”

“Of course not.”

“Then I don’t see what the problem is.”

“There are no problems, Alpha,” Mike quickly said.“We’re just worried.”

“You shouldn’t be.Angus and I will both be just fine. The Rosewood pack is an ally, and they won’t do anything to hurt us.”

“You can’t know that for sure.”

Angela opened the trunk of her car, dumped her backpack into it, and slammed it shut.“I don’t care what the two of you think or believe.I know what I’m doing, while you don’t.Stop sticking your noses where they don’t belong.”She turned to Angus.“Ready to go?”

Angus had never been more ready for anything.“Of course.”

“Let’s head out, then.”

She climbed into her car, and Angus quickly followed. He wasn’t afraid that Mike and Leonard would hurt him, but that didn’t mean he wanted to spend more time than he strictly had to in their company. He was happy to leave them behind, and he slowly relaxed as Angela drove off.

“Everything okay?”she asked, startling him.

“Of course.”

“Would you tell me if something wasn’t?”

“You don’t have to worry about me, Alpha.I’m fine and ready to work.”

He could feel Angela’s gaze on him, and he was grateful when she didn’t add anything. He supposed that she didn’t care how he felt as long as he was available to help the pack.

He wasn’t one bit surprised.

Del landed on his back. The air slammed out of his lungs, and he stayed where he was, staring at the sky and the top of the trees. He should get back up and try to take down Kyle, but his entire body hurt.

Fighting wasn’t for him.

Kyle’s face appeared above Del.“Everything okay?”he asked, a worried frown twisting his expression.“Did I hurt you?”

Del shook his head.“Just my pride.”

Kyle laughed.“Your pride is fine.”He offered Del his hand.“Come on.I’ll help you up.”
