“So two guards and four psychics?”
She nodded again, and Alaric focused on Gregory. “We parked through there.” He pulled a set of keys from his pocket and stashed them in one of Gregory’s. “Lock her in the trunk.”
Gregory nodded and jogged. It didn’t take many minutes before he reached the cars, pushed the lock button on the keypad and put the psychic in the trunk. She didn’t fight him, didn’t so much as struggle, and Gregory almost felt bad when he closed her in.
Then he ran back to Alaric.
“Problem?”
“None, didn’t flinch once.”
Alaric frowned. “So do you think it was four psychics with or without her?”
He’d assumed with, but now he wasn’t sure. “Don’t know.”
“Nah, I should’ve specified, but I didn’t think of it until you’d left.” He leaned a little to the side as if hoping to be able to see through the window. He couldn’t, unless he had better vision than Gregory, but he didn’t think so.
“We attack?” It was the only way, right?
“Yeah, I think it’s the next step.”
Gregory grinned. Yup, it was the next step.
Chapter 21
Thanatos stared at the men filling his kitchen. It wasn’t his kitchen. It was everyone’s kitchen, but…They were big, not as big as Amell, but big all the same.
One of them watched him curiously. “What do you do?”
Sighing, Thanatos gestured at the butter cookies he’d made. “There are cookies if anyone wants some, and I can put on coffee.”
A few uttered appreciative noises, so he went to the coffee maker and got started. The curious man followed him. Considering how crowded the kitchen was, it was awkward having someone trailing after you. Thanatos glared at him. “What?”
“Can you make me feel something I don’t really feel?” His brows furrowed.
“No. Our names are often a clue to what we can do, so take a guess.”
He looked more confused. “Your names?”
“Yes, our names. Have you met Prophecy?” He gestured at a scowling Prophecy who’d been cornered by the table by another man asking questions.
“Oh, he can…”
“Or maybe Minerva.” At the mention of her name, Minerva beamed at them from where she was seated by the table, not looking intimidated in the least by being in a room filled with men a good size bigger than her.
“I don’t know what that means.”
Oh, goody. “She’s the goddess of wisdom.”
“She’s a goddess?” He gestured at Minerva.
Holy hell. “No, she’s just a woman, but she’s named after the goddess of wisdom because she knows things.”
He nodded eagerly. “And you?”
“My name is Thanatos.”
“I don’t know the word or eh…the god.”
