“You can look. All clear.”

She had no idea how wrong she was. My shirt hung down past Hailey’s knees and looked more like a dress, but … fucking hell, what was it about a woman wearingyourclothes that made it so irresistible?

Some primitive, possessive part of my brain was deeply satisfied to see her in my shirt. As if I had staked my claim.

With one big step, I was standing right in front of her, one arm around her waist, then carried her to the bed. She was so tiny it took barely any effort.

“Get into bed. I have practice in the morning, and I need to get some sleep,” I ordered.

She bit the corner of her mouth but climbed into my oversized bed and slid under the covers.

I hooked our phones to the chargers, set my alarm for the next morning, then went to the door to turn off the lights.

For a moment, I lingered in the darkness, then I turned around and slipped into bed with Hailey.Another thing from my list of things I never thought I’d do.

To be respectful, I stayed on my side of the bed as much as possible. I wasn’t going to make any presumptions just because she had decided to sleep here.

“Colt?” Her voice sounded so sweet and warm.

“Yeah?”

“Any particular reason why you’re practically hanging halfway off the edge of the bed?”

I huffed, half amused, half exasperated. Was she so oblivious to what she was doing to me?

“You tell me.”

“I’d say it sounds pretty uncomfortable. There’s definitely plenty of room over here.”

“Oh yeah?”

“Wanna come here and find out?”

I slid closer to the middle of the bed, then clasped my hands behind my head and stretched out on my back.

The sheets rustled, then her petite body was pressed against my side, and she placed a warm hand on my stomach, with her long hair tickling my chest. The difference between heaven and hell was a fine line.

“Colt?” I asked again into the darkness.

“Uh-huh?”

I enjoyed the roughness of his warm, large body under my hand, and was afraid he would pull away after my next question.

“Why did we never really talk again after the day we met?”

He sighed.Good job, Hailey, now he’s annoyed.

“It’s kind of complicated.”

“Oh, I see. It’s all right, you don’t have to tell me anything if you don’t want to.”

Why should he? He’s been keeping his distance for years. What the hell did I expect, him to spill his guts just because I touched his dick? I knew better. Colt’s walls were damn thick. I wasn’t going to knock them down overnight, which was okay. My curiosity had simply gotten the better of me.

The cloak of darkness shrouding us had given me theconfidence to ask. It had been floating around in my head for years, and I was desperate for an answer.
