Asshole.I stride over to his desk and scribble the code down on the notepad before handing him the top sheet.

“She’ll need the code to get in… and out. She’s not to give this to Carmela.”

“O-kay,” he says, slowly.

Yeah, he’s definitely amused now.

“I’d ask you to take it up, but no offense, you’re my best friend, but also a man, and even with all your proclaiming, ‘she’s like a sister to me’, unless it’s life or death, you don’t get to be with her alone.”

His lips twitch. “Understood. I genuinely think of her as a sister, but I get that you might be feeling a little territorial. Bruised too, what with Christian making a claim.”

I stare at him hard. He stares right back. He’s enjoying this, I realize—the culmination of our plans. Finally taking action.

“Maybe we can skip to the part where you message Cherry for what I need?”

“Sure.” Still grinning, he holds up his cell. “Fire away.”

“Personal care products.”

He lifts one brow. “Could you narrow it down?”

“She’s on her period.”

“Okay… what brand does she use?”

“Brand?” How the fuck would I know?

“There are different kinds. Is it heavy or light flow? With or without an applicator? Pad? That kind of thing.”

“Jesus! How do you know this stuff?”

“How do you not know this much stuff?” he counters. “How did you not think to ask?”

I swipe a hand down my face. “I’ve never had a woman hang around longer than it took to fuck her.”

He makes a low whistle and begins tapping on the cell. “I’ll ask Cherry to get a selection.”

He could have just done that to start with instead of fucking with me.

“Anything else?”

I send him a shifty look. “Chocolate… And a heat pack.”

He chuckles.

I shake my head in warning.

“Got it,” he says, tapping away and grinning like a maniac. “Chocolate… And a heat pack.”

“Okay, I’m off. Wish me luck.”

“You don’t need it,” he says, slipping his cell phone into his pocket. “You’ve got this. I’ll make sure your girl’s safe.”

CHAPTER 42

CARMELA

Iwake up. Which means I fell asleep… in his bed with his arm wrapped around me. It might have been only a nap, but it was the best rest I’ve had in a long time. No nightmare. No waking up in a cold sweat…
