How awesome!

“It isn’t the same for everyone,” he continued. “What’salways the same, beasts will recognize their mates, maybe even before the human side will consciously do so.Thishappened to us.Iwasn’t sure whatIwas feeling, but he knew you were there before you even entered the building.Icaught on when you did.”

I nodded, eager for him to continue.

“And they’re tuned in to each other.Likewe can sense each other when we’re near.”

“Can they do it from afar?”

“I’ve heard tell of mated beasts tracking from a distance.”

More awesome!

“When they communicate, will we know what they say?”Iasked.

“My creature is tuned to me.Wetalk as you would, say, to your cats. It’smore like we understand each other.Thesame for you?”

I nodded.

He continued. “He’salso tuned to you. He’scognizant of what goes on between us, the feelings we share, if not the things we say to each other. He’stuned to her, though he didn’t know she was sleeping or drugged, because as an animal, he doesn’t understand those concepts.Hesensed her as timid, shy, hiding, vulnerable, because he could feel her alive.Andin their way, they’ll talk to each other.Ifwe’ll understand what they’re saying, or to put it better, conveying, we’ll have to find out.”

“But when she fluttered, he felt her.”

“It’s been probably two decades since he’s taken that kind of control of me whenI’min human form.Butas an example of how he talks to me,Iknew exactly what happened and why he was keen to get to you…or more to the point, her.”

“Is he communicating to her now?”

He smoothed his hands over my back. “No, love. She’swith us, but not quitewithus.”

“Oh.”Ipouted.

“But this is progress.Today,Dr.Fearsomeis sending a nurse to administer your?—”

Even held in his arms, in his bed, after having sex, at his words, my body chilled over.

“No,”Iwhispered fiercely.

He pressed me closer to him. “Laura, you can trust her.She’sFearsome’ssister.”

“I’d rather go to his clinic.I’drather see them take theIVbag directly from supply.”

“I can have a machine delivered to test the contents before it’s administered if you like.”

“You can?”

“Absolutely.”

“I don’t want to offend her, butI’dlike you to do that.”

“I think if you tell her what happened to you, she’d understand your hesitance around healthcare workers.”

Hesitant was understating it, andIblamedBuildmoreandFitzgeraldfor leaving me with that damage, because if you needed to trust anyone, you needed to trust doctors and nurses.

“It’ll probably go away,”Imuttered.

“You endured something traumatic, bissi.Yourreaction is understandable.”

I took in a big breath and let it go.
