“And what’s that?”
“One of yours started that fight at the diner, my guy wants a one-on-one with him to settle the score. Fair’s fair.”
“There’s an unused farm off the sixth turning. Lily will know the place. One hour.”
The call ends and Hopper smirks. “Let’s go.”
“Is that all that’s gonna happen? A one-on-one with Shane? My brother and nephew will be safe?”
“As long as they keep the peace, they’ll see another day. If you leave my side, if you give me any reason to think you’re up to something, I’ll give the signal to end them all. So keep your fuckin’ mouth shut and do as you’re told.”
Slade has given up on me, but I’ll do as I’m told not to cause him further reason to hate me.
Chapter Sixteen
Shane
“Why does my sister have your number?”
I have enough to deal with, I don’t need Slade up in my face over his sister. I fucked up starting the fight in the diner and now the club is having to meet with the enemy.
Thinking of a lie before my silence answers for me, I tell him, “It was a precaution, in case her car broke down again.”
“I think you’re lying, brother.”
Losing all patience, I remind him, “You’re done with her, what the fuck do you care why she has my number?”
He shoves me in the chest, but I hold my ground and keep my fists at my side.
“You think I don’t know what my sister is like, or how my brothers are?” he bellows.
Grim appears at my side and it’s another reason why I miss having him around.
“Back off, Slade!”
“Stay out of it, Grim,” Leo orders, then takes Slade by the arm. “We don’t have time for this shit. Deal with it later.”
It takes a beat, but Slade follows Sparky and Cas outside and then Leo turns his attention to me.
“I don’t give a shit if you’ve fucked Lily ten ways from Sunday, you’re certainly not the fuckin’ first or even hundredth, but you make it right with Slade.”
“Sure.”
Leo gives Grim a strange fleeting look before leaving and I hold my brother back.
“What the fuck is going on between you and Leo?”
“We ain’t got time for that now.”
“I’ll take the cliff notes. Walk and talk, brother.”
“Leo doesn’t trust Nora. He’s fixating and nothing I’m telling him, he’s believing.”
“Fuck. That’s not good.”
“To say I can’t wait to get her back to the mountain is an understatement.”
“You’re worried?”
