I laughed. “I’m glad you didn’t wait. How’s it going with Mr. Middleton?”
Sawyer sighed. “TJ’s taking care of him, mostly, but I’ve got someone lined up to help. One of the Cowboys—well, you need to meet everyone. We have two female members, the Rey twins. They’re great women. Mina is married to Gina, and Miri has a new girlfriend, Tanya.
“Tanya’s mother is a former home health nurse, and I’m hoping she’ll help Mr. Middleton get acclimated to my place until he goes to stay with my folks. I’m wondering if she’ll be able to travel to San Diego and help Mr. Middleton while he’s staying there. I don’t want to put too much strain on my mom. The only way to keep the Scorpions or the Viper Kings away from the old man is to hide him.” Sawyer’s fingers danced down my spine, bringing goose bumps to the surface.
I propped up to stare at him. “Do you think TJ will be okay with that? With you sending his grandfather to San Diego?”
Sawyer gently rolled me to my back and hovered over me. “Do you think that’s a bad idea? Should I think about doing something else?”
I could see he was serious, asking my opinion and wanting an honest answer. I reached to graze my fingers over his cheek. “I think you need to ask yourself what you’d do if I wasn’t in the picture. I think there are rules your club has in place for handling things like this, and you don’t need to worry about what I think. I believe you need to do what your club deems is appropriate since you took over from your father.”
He studied me for a moment. “And if I do that, will you leave me?”
“Sawyer, sugar, I don’t plan to leave you for any reason, but if you’re worried about anything like that, then don’t tell me how you handle it. Don’t tell me anything, and I’ll never ask you a question about your club business.”
“Can you live with that? Without me telling you what’s going on in my life?” The beautiful man was concerned.
“I will do everything I can to support you. You’re my partner, and I love you. We are in this together.” I kissed the middle of his chest to hit home my statement.
We settled into the bed and went back to sleep, and when I woke at noon, Sawyer was behind me, his arms around me with his warm breath on my neck. I wasn’t used to being the little spoon, but it was a fantastic feeling.
Unfortunately, I needed to pee, so I turned in his arms and smiled because he was already awake. “How long have you been awake?”
“I don’t know. A few hours, but I like watching you sleep. You make these cute little sounds.”
I felt my face flush, and I laughed. “Probably snoring.”
Sawyer kissed my forehead, my nose, and my lips. “I don’t care. I love you.”
My heart grew wings. I hoped I would never come down from the clouds.
Chapter Twenty-Three
Sawyer
We made love again, and I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that Fitz Morgan was the man for me. His telling me that he would support me in anything I had to do was a relief. I believed he understood my dedication to the club, but I still didn’t want to disappoint him. He meant everything to me.
I went to the kitchen and opened the fridge to find Fitz didn’t have much food inside. I checked the cabinets and found pastries, so I popped two in the toaster and made some coffee.
I’d pulled on a pair of Fitz’s boxers when I left the bedroom, hoping Fitz wouldn’t wake before I returned. I’d have to give the man shit about his breakfast choices.
There was a light knock on the front door, so I headed that way, glancing out the dining room window to see Elgin Tan standing on the porch with his broom. I opened the door, and he smiled. “Mr. Sawyer! It’s good to see you, sir.”
I leaned forward and shook his hand. “How’s school?”
“Very good. We’re going to New York for Thanksgiving to see my grandparents. Is there anything you need me to do before we go?” Elgin glanced at the porch, so I followed his gaze to see it was pretty clean.
Fitz had put some colorful pots with cactus and succulents in the corners that seemed to be doing well under his care. I didn’t want them to be overwatered.
I was sure the kid was looking for some spending money for his trip, so I thought for a minute. “Actually, if you could give the porch and the driveway a hosing off before you leave, that would be helpful. Hang on a sec.” I hurried back to the bedroom and pulled out my wallet, grabbing a hundred to give to the kid.
“What’s going on? Where are you going? Are those my drawers?” Fitz sat up and rubbed his eyes, making me laugh.
“I’ll be right back. We need to talk about your grocery choices.” I hurried back to the front door and handed the folded bill to Elgin.
“Here ya go. Just hose the dust off and be careful with these cactus pots. I don’t think they need water, so don’t worry about that. Thanks, Elgin. Tell your mom I said hi.” I glanced up to see Mae Tan standing at the end of her driveway, so I waved.
“Thank you, Mr. Sawyer. I’ll do it over the weekend before we leave on Tuesday. Happy Thanksgiving.”
