One of these days, Diablo was going to kill someone with that wildness.

Fortunately, today was not that day. Instead, he was getting them the hell out of there.

As lightning crashed in the distance, and they raced back to the castle, Gamble knew one thing.

It felt good to be loved.

No.

Adored.

New Orleans

Wednesday

Mid-Day

The bottom line was that they were home. Not only were they home, but they were beyond safe. When the plane landed, they were whisked away by fellow Marines, and put in a blacked-out Navigator.

They were riding in style.

Blackhawk style.

Apparently.

As two Spiders transported them to a private field, they were loaded up into the Deputy Director’s private helicopter.

There was a new base, and Gamble was dying to see it. Oh, Elizabeth told him about it, but seeing was believing.

Beside him, a very tired Poe was holding on, trying to stay awake. Only, jetlag wasNO ONE’Sfriend.

As they touched down on the top of some odd concrete structure, they were now even more curious.

“Captain, Director Blackhawk says someone will be meeting you. Head to the door, and use the plate,” the pilot offered.

Well, if he said so.

Getting out, he had Poe’s hand in his, and his rucksack over his shoulder.

Inside, was what they could quickly pack before transport whisked them, and the horses away.

Things could be bought, but getting out before hell opened up…

Priceless.

At the door, he placed his hand on the plate, and there was movement by his side.

“Hello, Captain Gamble Holloway, and Duke of Gordon, Doctor Poe Seville.”

Gamble put his body in front of Poe.

What stood before him was…translucent.

“And you are?”

She smiled.
