Elizabeth looked over at MATE.
“Please?” she asked.
MATE just smiled, and the coffee pot that he was touching zapped him, making him spill coffee all over the damn place.
“You mother fu…,” he began, but it was too late. MATE vanished.
Everyone laughed.
“I really hate you, Elizabeth,” he said, jumping up and scowling at her as he was dripping in coffee.
“Ditto,” she said, going to walk by him and then giving him a kiss on the cheek.
He sighed.
“I do hate her,” he said. “Really.”
And no one believed him.
Because there were no Hunters without the head Hunter herself.
And in the coming weeks, they were going to need her.

Poe had been there for four days, and they were the longest days of his life. The whole time, he was incredibly busy, and that was probably a good thing to be absolutely honest.
Idle hands were the devil’s workshop, or that was what his mother used to say.
He had so much to do, starting with picking out tombstones, and needing to make an appointment to get the Duke and Dutchess handled…
That time flew.
Later this week, there would be a wake for his parents at the estate so that their friends could say goodbye. After, there would be a cocktail party that would be his ‘coming out’ party.
As a Duke.
Oh, the irony.
Unfortunately, he had to be there.

What he wanted was to go home, leaving all of this behind, but he had a duty…
