He smiled and thought about Poe as he considered a suitable new name.
“Yeah, I do. I do think I need a doctor though, Elizabeth. I think I have a concussion. There are two of you.”
She didn’t doubt that.
He was dripping blood all over the limo.
“We’re almost there.”
“Can you get me and Rufus there? And maybe some more passengers?” he asked.
She was curious.
“Who?”
When he told her, she laughed.
And laughed.
And laughed.
“Gamble Holloway! You’re batshit insane.”
Yeah, he was, but he was a man in love, and if he’d learned anything it was that the heart made you do crazy-ass things.

Area Fifty-Two
Thursday
Morning
To say they all had a long night would be an understatement. When Elizabeth sent them home, after Von Donore got away, she told them she’d check in with them as soon as she handled some things.
Those things?
Getting Gamble to the hospital, and figuring out how she was going to transport horses across the ocean.
On Monday, that was going to happen, and she hoped that it all worked out.
Gamble would be traveling with Poe’s horses and their dog—who was sporting a nice new cast on his newly fixed leg.
It had little dog bones on it, and she couldn’t help but grab a Sharpie, and leave a little message for the man when he saw it.
She loved that dog so much, that she offered to dog sit for Gamble, knowing it would turn into a kidnapping situation.
Sue her.
She had a soft spot in her heart for dogs that were abused. They all reminded her of Babylon, bless his little doggy soul.
God, she missed that dog.
Now, as they rolled up, MATE gave them access without alerting The Hunters.
Her plan was to surprise them, and she had beignets for everyone.
She’d picked them up after her husbands called to make sure she wasn’t doing bad shit.
