Gamble held him as they were in the water.
“I’ll always be here for you, Poe,” he offered. “You can lean on me anytime. God knows you saved me. I’ll save you now.”
God.
How he wished.
All Poe wanted was to cry as he mourned his brother, his parents, his freedom, and now, Gamble.
He was bombarded with so much, and this devastated him. He wasn’t sure how he was going to get through all of this.
IFhe would get through any of it.
In all honesty, Poe felt helpless, and he’d never felt that before.
He didn’t know how to deal with this. Oh, he knew how, he just couldn’t put the pieces together to make them fit. Textbook to implementation was harder than he remembered.
“I’ll be okay,” Poe said, not believing that for a single, solitary second.
Gamble kissed him on the lips.
“If you want to talk about it, Poe, I’m here. When I was broken and hurt, you let me take my time. I’ll always be here for you because I love you.”
Poe rested his head on his shoulder, and let the tears come.
Only, this time, he wasn’t mourning his parents.
He was mourning losing Gamble.
Forever.
Chapter Twenty
The Police Station
Late Into
The Night
Well, well, well, wasn’t this quite the conundrum? When the cops busted through the doors at the dead woman’s home, and found her and Remmy there, they made sure to bust her chops.
Oh, and they enjoyed every second of it too. It was one hell of a spectacle.
They took her badge.
Her gun.
And they cuffed her.
In fact, she was still in cuffs sitting in the interrogation room. Now, don’t get her wrong. She loved being in cuffs, but not for any of these assholes.
This was a dog and pony show, and she was being made an example with a bunch of cops who didn’t like a woman having more power than them.
Well, they should enjoy it because Elizabeth was known for a few things.
Her ability to solve shit.
Her pettiness.
