“I’m a little scared too,” she admitted. “I mean, I know you are good at what you do, but this one seems so big. You’ve never hunted a lycan, let alone a handful of them. I trust you to return to me, but there’s this nagging voice in the back of my head that’s telling me you won’t come back.”

“I think everyone has a little sucker like that somewhere in their mind. No matter how positive one’s attitude and thoughts are, there is always a dark shadow.”

“Will all three of you go together once you’ve located them?”

“Yes. Ezra and I will start our search tomorrow by setting a perimeter. But with the locals avoiding that area largely, we have much ground to cover.”

“Will you be able to let us know that you’re okay?”

Mateo nodded against her head. “We have a satellite phone with us and a GPS tracker that Vince has access to.”

“So if you have not moved in a while and have not called, he knows something is wrong?”

“Basically. He’s always had good instincts about these things too.”

“So I shouldn’t get nervous until he does.”

Mateo chuckled lightly. “Exactly, but don’t follow him when he goes out to check on us. You’re not strong or experienced enough yet.”

“I promise I’ll be a good mate and stay behind.”

“Thank you.” She could sense that Mateo had more on his chest, so she stayed quiet until he found the strength to speak again. “How much do you want to be involved in the aftermath of the hunt?”

“What do you mean?”

“We’ll bring the lycans back if the hunt is successful, but if you don’t want to see any of it, we’ll make sure of it.”

“Honestly? I’m not sure. The thought of seeing them doesn’t scare me too much but then again, I’m not sure what their state will be like. I don’t want to think of the whole cutting-their hearts-out thing.”

“We’ll make sure not to give you any nightmares.”

“I have a feeling Ezra would think of me as pathetic.”

“None of us think that. Just remember: princesses don’t get their hands dirty. It’s our job to provide and care for you and that means protecting you from images you might not want to see. Your mental health is just as important as your physical.”

Scarlett hummed and nuzzled deeper into his neck, that warm fuzzy feeling spreading through her veins. “Thank you.”

“I have something else I would like to talk to you about.”

“That sounds serious.”

Mateo chuckled again, his fingers still caressing her thigh. “The times that we have shared you, how did you feel about it?”

“Inexperienced, mostly.”

“But did you feel comfortable with all three of us at the same time?”

“It’s odd because I do feel comfortable with you, but at the same time as if I won’t be enough. As if you won’t enjoy it as much as I do.”

“Rest assured that we do.”

“I just don’t know what to do.”

“Yet.”

“What?”

“You don’t know what to doyet. We are eager to teach you.”
