I refused to think the worst.
Finally, it hit me.
I’ll just call Skye. Maybe she knows what’s going on.
It didn’t take long for her to pick up the call.
“Hey, Eli. What’s up?”
“Nothing much,” I said, trying to stay as calm as possible. “Your girl with you?”
“Who? Nyx?”
“Yeah.”
There was a brief moment of silence, then finally, she said, “Yeah.”
Relief washed over me. “Okay, cool. Put her on the phone.”
“What?”
“I said, put her on the phone.”
“She’s in the bathroom. Did you try calling her?”
“Yeah, but it’s going straight to voicemail.”
“Oh.” Again, there was silence. “Shit, her phone is right here, and I think it’s on vibrate or something. I’ll tell her to call you when she gets out of the bathroom.”
“It’s cool. I’m headed that way right now.”
“What? Why?”
“Because I need to talk to her.”
“Yeah, well, she can’t talk right now. She’s not feeling too good. I think I hear her throwing up in the bathroom.”
“What?”
“Yeah, I gotta go. Don’t come over here,” she said before the line went dead.
I stared at my phone, trying to make sense of our exchange.
Something was off.
Then it clicked.
That bitch is lying.

NYX
I shouldn’t have felt any type of way. Not after allowing another man to put his mouth and tongue all over me. But I did. The fact that Shade was right about the way Eli would respond left an unsettling feeling in my stomach, and I hadn’t stopped thinking about it since we’d left the parking lot.
Eli was hiding something, and now I had to find out what it was. Sadly, I didn’t want to know. If it was about him being with another woman, knowing meant that I’d have to face the fact that he really didn’t respect me, and our relationship was over.
“Don’t sweat that shit,” Shade said as he slid his hand over my thigh.
