“You know what?” I said flatly. “Don’t even worry about it. I’m good.”
“Nyx—”
“I said I’m good, Eli.” I turned away, my heart pounding.
And he really did it. He walked away like I meant nothing.
Fucking asshole.
Stepping outside, I pulled out my phone, contemplating if I should call Skye to pick me up. But I’d had enough of her for one day, and I knew she would probably bring Mecca.
I’ll just call a Ryde On.
“Nyx?”
I looked up, surprised to see Shade standing in front of me.
His easy grin was enough to send a rush of heat through my chest, but I quickly shoved the feeling aside.
“Shade...hey,” I said, forcing a half-smile.
“What’s up? What are you doing out here? It’s cold as shit.”
Tell me something I don’t know.
I glanced down at my phone. According to the Ryde On app, it was going to be another fifteen minutes before my car showed up, and this wasn’t the kind of weather I wanted to be waiting in.
“Yeah, I know. I’m just waiting for my car.”
He frowned. “Waiting for your car? You’re here alone?”
“Well, I wasn’t at first, but...” I stopped myself. “It’s a long story.”
He glanced at Trace, then back at me before snatching my phone.
“What are you doing?” I spat.
“Canceling your car. I’m taking you home.”

SHADE
“So, are you going to tell me who made the mistake of leaving you stranded out here like this?” I asked, not bothering to hide the irritation in my voice as my eyes swept over Nyx.
She was wearing a dress that barely covered her thighs, ending where her boots took over. She looked good. Too damn good to be standing outside alone.
I needed a name. I needed to know who I was going to put hands on.
“I’d rather not,” she replied. “It’s been a long night, and all I want to do is get home.”
“Speaking of getting you home, where is that exactly?”
“Oh...right...I guess you do need to know that, huh?”
“Yeah, unless you’re trying to hang out in the backseat of my Range all night,” I said with a shrug. “Not that I’d mind.”
She rolled her eyes, hiding a smirk as she scooted forward to whisper her address to my driver.
